-Great atmosphere last night. It was a "home" game for Davidson even though UNC fans outnumbered us by about 5 to 1. I think the entire Davidson student body was there.
-Charlotte Bobcats Arena is what the Charlotte Coliseum should've been 20 yrs. ago. Building that archaic dome far outside downtown was a dumb move that led to its annihilation (and contributed to the Hornets exodus). Bobcats Arena is pretty swank and is one of the reasons downtown Charlotte is booming.
-Curry is for real. Ginyard, Ellington and Frasor played tight D on him all night and he still found a way to get 24 pts. He shot horribly, but I think his wrist cast/wrapping threw him off, especially early on. He showed last night he can drive and score, and not just rely on the outside J.
-Wayne Ellington might end up being the most improved player from last year. He's much stronger, much more aggressive driving to the basket, and much smarter about which shots he takes.
-Roy did not coach a very good game IMO. Why no press? The only times they pressed, Davidson had trouble with it. I don't think UNC took advantage of their physical and athletic superiority enough.
-Bob McKillop had his team prepared mentally. They were excited but also composed. Tyler H. was not. He made a bone-headed foul, followed by a bone-headed shove for a T.
-Davidson plays really smart D - they communicate as well as just about any team does. Rarely does the help man not arrive in time.
-Carolina shot lights-out from the 3. When they learn to get the ball down low to their horses, they're going to get more good looks from outside. If Green and Frasor can shoot in the high 30s% from the arc, they will be dangerous. But they're not there yet - they have a ways to go.
-I was proud of my Cats but would be ecstatic if they took the next step and beat Duke there in a couple weeks.

I have been to the CLT arena for a Pro Basketball game, and that place is a dud. Over all its a nice looking arena, but I have never been so bored in my life at a sporting event. Half the arena filled, not the crazy cheering like at a college game, just not a fun filled exciting atmosphere. Its a great place for other events, but I would not say its the reason CLT is booming.

And no, the Cats better not beat my Duke, it would have been awesome to see them take UNC down, but since they couldnt do the job, more of a reason for Duke to beat them!

that might be due to the fact that that franchise has been worthless since it began. The arena is top-notch, except for the lame skyline on the scoreboard. You should've been there last night. The arena brought about 20,000 people to downtown last night on a Wed. night. Even if that crappy franchise gets just 12K people per game, that's way more economic impact than downtown had 5-10 years ago.

I didn't say it's THE reason. The banks are the main reason Charlotte is booming (duh), but having the football and basketball stadiums located downtown is a big factor in getting people to come downtown in the first place, find restaurants/bars/etc. they like, come back, tell others, and help it grow.

BTW, nothing in the wide world of sports would make me happier than if Davidson beat Duke.

Saying it is one of the reasons is enough to make it a reason, and I just disagree mmmkay? :p

But I do agree building that, the nfl stadium downtown, all helps out. I work downtown on Tues/Thurs, they have alot happening down here all the time. And if there is a UNC game anywhere in NC there will be plenty of fans regardless of whether it is Charlotte or not. I went to the Tourney a couple years ago in Charlotte, first round where Duke and NC were there, Duke played Miss State and NC played some other crappy team. 70% of the arena was UNC fans. Half of my attorney's office are UNC people, a few Duke grads, a few Wake grads, but again UNC fans flock everywhere, its annoying. :realmad:

I hope to make it out to that game Duke/Davidson, I'm glad it is early in the afternoon because that is the day of the SEC championship, I'm waiting to see what happens with that though because I'd rather go to the SEC championship game if I can get tickets to that. We'll see though. And I'm sure any team that can beat Duke or UNC would be absolutely thrilled.

I didn't think about that. Good point. Could be a banner day for one of us.

It could be quite the day for one of us or quite the awful day.

Duke Wins, Tenn wins! :dance2:
Duke Wins, Tenn Loses! :bad:
Duke Loses, Tenn Wins! Would suck, but Tenn football definately outweighs, still don't see Duke losing it though.
Duke Loses, Tenn Loses! :realmad: Just don't see that happening.

i went to three Bobcats games the first season the arena was open, including the 1st game. at that time, it was new, the franchise had the stadium buzz going for it. i had a good time at all three games.

but, at the end of the day, with the grind of an NBA season, and the Bobcats not being good, i can see, and have seen on TV, the atmospher isn't great at the arena....but that does have more to do with the team than anything else.......

and i like that it's down town...each time went downtown prior to the game, had dinner somewhere on Tryon or went to a local bar for drinks, then on to the game...made for a good night out.......
