Just got back from South Bend, and it was a great trip to see the class shown by the Notre Dame faithful. They welcome us from the moment we walked into the hotel in Plymouth Indiana, to the time we left this morning. They have a clean campus, great tailgating in the North General Parking lot. When you enter into the stadium, they greet you with, Hello, welcome to Notre Dame, we hope you enjoy the game and have a safe trip back home. Pure class. Tennessee had a good crowd there. We all sat in sections 118 through 122. Good seats, however I'd like to see some of our fans get a little closer to the field. Notre Dame needs to work on that. I would like for us to keep a game going with them in the future. Some our SEC schools refuse to schedule tuff teams outside the conference, ie Georgia. Keep up the good work Mike Hamilton.

They're just humbled because of the fact that they live in the purgatory of northern Indiana.

I had to go through Domer/BoilerMaker territory on a near-yearly basis up until recently... Northern Indiana/southern Michigan has to be my least-favorite place. Blech. I would be glad if I never had to go there again.

So would the Vols. Rocky Top is a hard song to sing on karaoke but it gets the locals all worked up....Vaunted D LOL :bad:

Well if you watched closely, I think you would conclude that the Vol D was very good.

After the first long drive for ND, the Vol defense played very well. ND's second TD was a 26 yard drive, 3rd a punt return (no D involved).

In all, ND had 2 TD drives against the UT D. It was our offense and special teams that put too much pressure on our D.

I agree with the originator of this post - very good experience at ND.

There were 2 young guys in front of me that took the same approach as Southbender59 - trash talking. It was pretty amazing how quiet they got when things were 21 - 21 :biggrin2: Once ND pulled away - they went back to the chants.

I sounded like a little four-year-old while 83 was running down the sidelines. Anyway, yeah, they are full of class. I would, however, like to see how they are after a loss. The bathrooms suck-not nearly enough in the lower level, but that is the only flaw the stadium has. I consider ND Stadium to be college football's Wrigley.

Here's another flaw - I sat in seats in the old section.

They were by far the smallest seats I've ever encountered. I'll never complain about Neyland being too small again!

Also, the seats were really a wooden bench that was essentially a 2x6!

Bottomline, it was the least comfortable seating I've ever experienced.

How did you like all the TV time outs?? NBC has ruined the ND home field advantage as it takes the crowd out of the game with all the long delays. I refuse to go in and sit on those hard wood seats for 4 1/2 hrs! BTW The Tenn fans I met were very friendly. Hopefully we will have the same reception next year in Atlanta.

My god (no ND pun intended :D) - the TV time outs were out of control. The first quarter took over 1 hour and the first half was right at 2 hours.

I hated seeing that guy with the red gloves come onto the field.

I was astounded. Was at my daughter's championship soccer game when the UT-ND game began. Soccer game went into OT. Then we had the post-game party and trophy presentations. Got home and the UT game was just a few minutes into the 3rd Q. I thought CBS and Espn were bad.

Of course, we all know that TV drives football.

NBC sucks. They turn a 3 hour game into a 4 1/2 hour game. Good Lord, that thing took forever!

This was my 1st trip to ND, but I hope to make many more!

The campus was BEAUTIFUL!

And the fans were the friendliest I've encountered!! We went to a bar Friday night...bought our 1st drink, then never paid for another. I had to give drinks away as I'd look down at times to see 3 Jack and Cokes in front of me! PLUS, every time they played their fight song on the jukebox, they played Rocky Top FIRST and DIDN'T have their own version to harass us with! We were invited to many tailgates, and ended up at one where you couldn't be empty handed for more than 30 seconds or they were giving you more food and drinks! BEST FANS EVER!!!

Not to mention that not one time did I hear any rude or derogatory comments slung our way. And to top it off, we even encountered a Georgia fan who was friendly in South Bend. Must be something in the water?!?

Glad you had a good time - hope there are many more starting in '09! Went to K-town last year and had the same experience.

I saw about 2,000 T-shirts Notre Dame fans were wearing last year in Knoxville that said, "Volunteer This" and had an arrow pointing down towards their b@lls. Yeah, that's real classy right there. But that was just about 2,000 of them. Most of the fans are good, like in "Rudy."

"I'm catholic, therefore, I'm drunk." I laughed at that T-shirt.

If UT's head coach was a certified genious the Vol fans would be as receptive.

I have two favorite college football teams UT and ND. I went to their game at UT last year and wanted to goto South bend this year.

While your points on class are good, there are reasons why Georgia and Florida (another team that comes up with weak non-conference scheduling) have the easy games that they do, and that is because of the UF-UGA game being held in Jacksonville. Big schools like Notre Dame will only schedule games with other big schools if they can make it a home-home deal. However, UGA and UF cannot agree to this, because then they would not have their required 6 home games on the year they traveled to ND or another school. If the UGA-UF game moved out of Jacksonville, those two teams would have the option of scheduling tough games with teams that would not require them to travel to their schools the following year.

When do we play ND again?  Anybody know?

The UHND (unofficial Home of ND) site has projected schedules out to 2010. That looks to be the earliest. ND starts playing home-home with:

NC State
Oklahoma
LSU
Penn State
Georgia Tech
UCLA
ASU

Although, there is only three teams ND will definitely play every year -USC, Purdue, and Navy. I have also heard that ND is looking to drop Stanford, and that Mich doesn't want to play ND anymore (huh?). Other than that its wide open. Here's to some future ND-UT games!
