Oh come on, its no more crap than conference teams receiving money when THEY don't play in a BCS game, or conferences getting automatic berths. The only truly fair way to do it would be for every team to enter the BCS purely on ranking. That won't happen, though, because the bowl games are about big money, and the bowls want some leeway in choosing teams. If anything, the BCS is trying to make it as if we are in a conference by matching payouts with the average conference team.

But a payout for not even going???? Yeah, every team in a conference gets a little green when a team from the same conference goes. That's the benifet for being in a conference.
I failed to see where Army, Navy and Temple get cash every year for being Independent.
Join a conference domers. Win it like the rest of us to go to a BCS.

You do realize that the only way that the new plan is financially better for ND than the 2005 set-up is if ND goes to fewer than 1 BCS bowl in 9-10 years. If (When) we do better than that the old plan would have been MUCH more rewarding financially. Also, how is an automatic BCS berth for being 8th in the BCS (with 10 slots in the 2006 system) so bad? Good lord, 8-4 Unranked FSU gets an automatic BCS berth by winning the ACC. Notre Dame, either in 2005 or 2006 wouldn't even be BCS-eligible with that record (both W-L count and BCS ranking), so don't go telling me how easy it is for the Irish to get into a BCS bowl.

Come back and kvetch some more when ND takes a chance on ruining a conference championship/national championship season with a conference championship game. As much as I hate to say it, that's why I'm okay with FSU going to a BCS bowl...at least they took a chance on making their record worse - something the Domers don't have the cojones to do.

The only reason Notre Dame is not in a conference is because we like to play our rivalry games with BC, Pitt, USC, and the service acadamies, and we like to try to keep a national schedule with non-rivalry teams such as Tennessee. If the football program was a full member of the Big 10 most of these games couldn't happen. I believe that the lack of a record-independant automatic BCS berth makes up for the lack of a conference championship game.

Like I said before, you try to make sense of it by saying teams like Kentucky get BCS money when Georgia (Who won the Conference) goes to a BCS game. Why shouldn't Notre Dame.
So, is Notre Dame planning on splitting up the cash they get with Temple, Army and Navy?? Yeah, don't think they are.
Another case for the media and all the domers to hop on Weiss' nuts.
If I were the other indepentent's, I would sue the BCS and get the same preferential treatment domers get. Hell, better yet, the BCS should pay every team, now it's fair.
