Thoughts on NPA camp from yesterday. East TN in general showed out yesterday , with a few kids having breakout performances, but more on those guys in a few. Local area kids were invited to the showcase event and while some didnt get the reps, IMO they should have gotten what reps they did get they made the most of those opportunities. Here is my list of Top 20 kids from East Tennessee from the event.
1. Devin Harper Karns ATH 2016- Helped his stock more than any player from East Tennessee. He came into the event as a kid not even some local folks even knew about, but opened alot of eyes with a 4.49 40 @ 6-2 210lbs. He also looked great in individual drills. He should start getting looks from major D-1 schools. I think he is the most underrated player in the state. Devin made the showcase event
2. Austin Pope CAK ATH 2016- This kid was the overall Offensive MVP. He dominated in the 1-one-1's against highly regarded players who have major D-1 offers. Austin could have easily been the number #1 player on this list, but he already has the attention of school from across the country, so what he did yesterday is not a surprise to me. His recruiting profile is going to go more national now, with schools like Southern Cal, Oklahoma St, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Missouri among the next set of offers he could receive soon. Austin made the showcase event
3.TD Blackmon Maryville LB 2017- What you dont really appreciate about this kid on film, is the fact how well he can move his hips and get back into pass coverage. He has the size to go along with a great football IQ. He demonstrated the ability to play at a very high level and behind Overall MVP Tyrel Dodson, coaches raved about how he was the 2nd best LB at the event. TD made the showcase event.
4. Isaiah Gilmore The King's Academy ATH 2016 - When his name was called he stepped up and made tremendous plays. Matched against some of the more upper echelon players at the camp, he used quickness and overall speed to get by defenders and make spectacular catches. At times he was pushed around by larger players, but he still showed enough to be considered one of the events biggest offensive threats. Isaiah Gilmore made the showcase event.
5. Brian Tillery Maryville WR 2016 - I popped in his HUDL tape last night just to be sure if what I saw at the camp matched up to what I saw on film. This kid is a player. He has great speed and route running ability and was a homerun threat every time he touched the ball. He did drop a few passes that he should have caught, but when he did catch passes he was as dynamic as any player at the camp. Bryan made the showcase event
6.Jeremiah Howard Central ATH 2016 - Very elusive, has great feet and hands. He made play after play yesterday and was very consistent in drill work as well. The RB coach @ the event said that he was on of the top 4 backs in attendance @ a camp that had over 400 kids in attendance. He is an ATH who would be better suited for a role as a slot wide receiver in college.
7. Kentel WIlliams Fulton ATH 2016 - The biggest issue for Williams yesterday was getting reps in a aggressive, ultra competitive environment. He could have easily been higher on my list, as he torched defenders regularly. He has soft hands and catches the ball with ease, it seems like its effortless. He ran a 4.54 yesterday as well. It will be interesting to see how much larger his recruiting profile blows up over the next few months, as he is capable of playing at a D-1 level. Kentel made it to the showcase event.
8. Zack Dobson Fulton 2017 ATH - ATH is a term I use to describe his overall athletic ability, but Zack is a lockdown CB, where he can arguably be the best in E. TN. He lined up more at WR yesterday than CB, but looked dynamic in space and was easily one of the most explosive players in attendance, he made guys look silly. I would have liked to seen him more at his natural position at the event and moving forward I think he needs to maximize his potential more at CB to enhance his recruiting profile.
9. DeMilton Rocker Central CB 2016 - This kid opened my eyes yesterday and it matches what I see on film, an aggressive hard nosed player who isnt afraid to step up and compete. He shows very good coverage skills and was very physical at the line of scrimmage with WR's in the 1on1's. He is under the radar right now, but I expect him to land somewhere playing football at the next level, if he follows his performance at the camp into the regular season. DeMilton made it to the show case event.
10. Gaston Strong Fulton DL 2016 - I have seen this kid several times and he is always among the top kids that I have listed among my notes whenever I do see him. He plays hard show good pass rushing skills in the 1 on 1's and was easily the most dominate player from E. TN from a defensive line perspective. Has very good feet, could work on some aspects of his technique etc. Strong at the point of attack and does a good job of getting around defenders to make plays. Gaston made the showcase event.
