We all know that the 2016 class will be smaller than the preceding two classes. And we all know that Butch likes to maximize the number of early enrollees in each class. Does anyone have information on the target goal or maximum probable number of early enrollees that we can anticipate for the class of '16? And, among current commitments, who are projected to be early enrollees?

Don't know the numbers you asked about, but Guarantano and Osborne are two that plan to EE.

We can only bring in as many EEs as openings we have on the 85 scholly roster in Jan.

So we have to figure out how many current players graduate in December or are already graduated and are planning on not being in school in 2nd semester.

Do players taken off scholarship add to that number?

I think I understand this, so I'll try to answer.

Scholarships that are open in the fall (I'm pretty sure we're currently under the cap of 85) can be given to EEs.

Seniors who graduate in December also open up a potential scholarship for an EE.

Transfers or players who get kicked off the team do NOT open a spot for an EE.

I'm pretty sure that's right.

I think you're right on all accounts, there. Right now, I think we're around 81 on current scholarship players. The only other question in regards to this is if you have a player finish his undergrad, is a senior on the roster, and is taking graduate courses, surely there's an EE spot to take that place, right?

I'm pretty sure that depends on if his football career is over.

Say if Maggitt or Jackson decided they wanted to pursue a 6th year.

Sounds logical

So then- we have 14 current scholarship seniors on the roster. Take Maggitt & Jackson off of that, in case they pursued Medical RS, and you have 12. Plus the 4 remaining open scholarships out of the 85, and there's 16 EE spots for this incoming class.

Nice. Looks like we will be able to EE any recruit who is eligible and we are ready to commit to.

I wonder if some will be asked to hold off as we pursue some big fish closer to NSD.

Will definitely be interesting to watch. The value of Early Enrollment for these incoming freshmen is so vital for early success. Obviously there are exceptions (Barnett), but we had 10 EE's this past class, and many of them are playing key roles.

Dormady (won backup QB job)
Jennings (contributor at WR)
Kamara (baller)
Hall (now starting RT)
Jones (contributor at G)
Tuttle (arguably best DL contributor prior to injury)
Phillips (injuries slowed down, but still valuable)
Butcher (injured, but showed motor in Spring Game)
Kirkland (starting MLB)
Griffin (injured, but shows tons of potential at S)

Croom graduates I believe but is staying. This doesn't open an EE spot correct?

Yea the player has to graduate and be finishing up their eligibility.

Just because we have 14 seniors doesn't mean that all of them will be December graduates.

Some like maybe a Von Pearson who may not have taken enough classes to finish may stay in school till May.

Just depends, he would likely just be done and focus on draft but he could stay and finish degree in May on scholly if he isn't finished yet I do believe.

Early enrollees are a huge part of getting better as a team. The more the better! However, we should be in a good position to redshirt a lot if freshman in 2016

Any inside scoop as to any preferred walk-ons that may have a chance to have a scholarship awarded during the Winter or Spring?

TOS is saying JG will not enroll early bc his HS doesnt allow students to graduate early

Guess we'll see...may be a new policy. One of the first things he said after his commit was EEing.

Depending on how things go with NFL evaluations in December, Marcus Jackson and perhaps Maggitt could get medical redshirts if they decide to forgo the 2016 draft.

Also with end of year transfers we could get close to 23-25 scholly's.
