NY Times Article: Re VOLS Morley & Grades

As a former University instructor, who cares! These kids are not cheating any math wizzes out of any scholarships! Student atheletes such as Morley, are people who would not be going to college otherwise, and this gives them a legitimate shot at becoming productive members of society. Where do you think many would be without athletic scholarships? These scholarships give them a chance to learn valuable life and leadership skills. You can major in just about anything from theater to tourist management, so why not football or athletics? They recieve these scholarships because they make the University the money that pays for them. What is so wrong about that. I find these high brow arguments about Universities to be arrogant, hypocritical, and unrealistic about what a University really is these days anyway; a trade school. There is no other way to the NFL than through college. That is a fact.

This is old news that was debunked several months ago. But, I am sick and tired of being the whipping boy of NCAA athletics.

This is what the media does best. Drag stories up and give you no real context in order to lead you to their conclusion.
