was apparently a socialist. Not much has changed.

Power Line: Barack Obama, Socialist?

here is the Internet Archive Organization's cached version of the relevant Democrat Socialists of America page. Scroll down to the "New Party Update".

New Ground 47 - Chicago Democratic Socialists of America

This isn't going to change any minds, but it does further reinforce what I've been saying. Obama is a socialist at his very core, but he knows that identifying himself as one will doom his candidacy.

Off with his head!!!

You're right, this isn't going to change anybody's mind.

I don't think I would use the term WAS a socialist with regard to being endorsed by the New Party...which was certainly a very left-wing party...with a social progressive agenda, it seems. But, I would say that it speaks to those he has associated himself with...and his ACORN ties.....apparently New Party and ACORN were very close...

that would be too good a fate

it should change peoples minds, but some people are too stupid to realize how dangerous Marxist philosophy actually is.

but it does mesh with the fact that candidates go screaming toward the center at election time, then back to their bona fides once in office.

But do they really? Clinton had to sign Welfare Reform, and Bush hasn't seen a dollar he doesn't want to spend.

Congress is going to send the economy down the tubes with pork either way. The way I see things now, I am voting strictly for foreign policy these days.

Until a populist takes a stand against the pork nothing will change much for any of us. Tax cuts will always be passed and rescinded, and the government will continue to write checks it can't cash.

many presidents have tried hard for the line item veto, but the congress ain't letting it happen.

and yes, candidates campaign as neutrally as possible while still keeping their bases in tow. Clinton signed welfare reform because it was sensible. Bush spent like a sailor because he had no offset in the congress.

I'm convinced that we should forever endeavor to keep the congress and the presidency from different parties. People complain that nothing would get done, but that's what we want. We only want huge issues that bring both sides together getting done. The rest of it we want killed with debate and squabbling.

Agree 100%. When Pelosi, Reid and Bush were all on the same page I got the "Lou Dobbs" jitters.

and you are, but there are only a couple of folks around here that beat me on the harshness scale.

if I'm not in the top 5, then I need to work harder, roll up my sleeves, clear off the kitchen table and start raking muck as if my life depended on it.

I guess BPV gives us all something to shoot for.

Actually, it's times like these I wish a certain female poster would post in here again. But alas...
