Obama Bashes America Again

Barack Obama said:
…The world rallied around America after the 9/11 attacks, and continues to support our efforts in Afghanistan, because of the horror of those senseless attacks and the recognized principle of self-defense. Likewise, the world recognized the need to confront Saddam Hussein when he invaded Kuwait — a consensus that sent a clear message to all about the cost of aggression.

Furthermore, America cannot insist that others follow the rules of the road if we refuse to follow them ourselves. For when we dont, our action can appear arbitrary, and undercut the legitimacy of future intervention — no matter how justified.

This becomes particularly important when the purpose of military action extends beyond self-defense or the defense of one nation against an aggressor…

Evidently, the part in bold is the part of the speech in question by this blog.

I really don't see how it's "bashing America". He's simply saying that how can we expect other nations and people to follow a certain set of rules that we bestow upon the world, unless we follow those same rules and standards.

I was thinking the same thing.

I really couldn't care less what the rest of the world thinks when it comes to defending ourselves.

As I've stated before in another thread, he should be the head of the U.N., not the U.S.A. when he's making these kind of comments.

I've never seen another POTUS who is so concerned with the image America projects to the rest of the world. When it comes to protecting our citizens, images be damned.

He is more concerned about what the rest of the world thinks as opposed to doing what is right for us. Don't forget he said he wants to fundamentally change this country, well he is well on his way. He hates America and everything we stand for. He is as anti-American as anyone on the planet.

I wish he would go be the head of the UN, he would fit in well.

That doesn't change the fact that the statement isn't bashing America.

and who does he think enforces these "rules of the road"? And who does he think set these "rules of the road"?

When crap hits the fan, who does everyone call? The UN? Pssssshhhhhhhh. WE ARE THE LAW. WE ARE THE ENFORCER. We drop bombs on Monday and use the same planes to drop food and supplies a week later. I can see where he "bashed America, but I can also so where he "bashed" Bush,......again. If thats not redundant. He's JV. He's a clown when it comes to foreign policy.

and I agree with BPV. Out of all the crapola, this is very low on the list. I guess I just went off the deep end a bit. I should just stay the hell outta the politics forum I suppose.

It is low on the list, but people, myself included are so tired of this communist going to other countries and bashing us. If he thinks these other countries are so great he can keep his ass over there, not to many here would miss him.

i particurally liked the fact that he refered to it as a just war only to have said exactly the opposite when bush was president.

I actually was plesently surpised by his speech there. The part about complete pacifism did not defeat Germany in WW II, and the same needs to be applied here with terrorists was dead on. I really honestly think that these guys are just so filled with blind hatred of Obama that nothing he does or says will be right. Personally, I think Obama has been a disaster, but I have to give credit where credit is due. And I believe he did get it right this time.

I know he was preaching to the Anti War people in his campaign and bashing Bush, and I really think he believed it. I honestly think his tune was massively changed tho when he was debriefed. Because, he has acted almost 180 degrees than I expected on the Middle East situation. I was fully expecting him to pull the troops out by years end and all that. The only thing is this obsession of trying these guys like normal civilian criminals.

So our image has no relation to our national security?

Some of his speech was better than I expected, but again he is accusing is of not following the rules. What rules? Who's rules are we not following?

Zero, Obama has went all over the world apologizing for us and sucking up to every other country and every religion other than Christianity and the terrorists still want to kill all of us.

If our image of being a free country bothers them, so what? Freedom, liberty, and independence are what this country was built upon.

I see no reason to ask the U.N. or other countries permission to defend ourselves.

When the chips are down for others, we're the first to be called upon and the first in line to help or defend. How dare they look down upon us from their lofty perch.

Im not concerned about how terrorist feel, I want allies in the fight to kill terrorist. And our image in other countries brings those allies to our side and not the sidelines

The UN is a bureaucracy, but we still have to remind OUR allies (not the UN) that were justified in this war, and telling the world to piss off is not productive. Dont let your dislike of Obama's other policies affect your opinion of others, If that was the case I would never be able to vote for anyone. I watched the speech and thought it was great IMO.

I'll agree some of his speech was ok. I just feel he's pandering to others. It's good we can disagree and not have a knock down and drag it out fight. :hi:
