It was a little surprising to me which presidential candidate is drawing attention to the same thing many of you have expressed regarding the Imus thing - that there is a frustrating double standard in Imus's being drawn and quartered over this, and the style of language used by many black and successful rap artists with regard to black women. Here is the article, and I'd like to know, especially, if this might improve anyone's view of Obama. Thanks.

He's scoring political points with the white middle class voters by showing them that he can be "fair and balanced".

It's political theatre. Nothing more, nothing less.

Agreed...he's just doing what his advisors tell him he should be....typical politics.

And then maybe, just maybe those are really his beliefs to boot. Ever think of that?

I think Obama is quite charismatic and relatively genuine (for a politician at this level). I just don't agree with his views on some core issues.

I think this could also help him with the AA community. As we've seen from posters here and in the media this last week, Sharpton and Jackson speak for only a portion of the community. The traditional pandering by candidates in the past is giving way to those with views more in line with Obama (my opinion).

I tend to agree. Obama is refreshing in a lot of ways, I feel. I mean, those who don't like or support Obama will claim any step he takes that would appear genuine and good, is just "political theatre." In my opinion, it is an ultra-cynical and suspect view that would assume any positive stance he takes is an insincere ploy, especially when that view is in agreement with what some have already expressed themselves. I mean, where is the track record to suggest he is not genuine or that he is deceitful? I don't remember another presidential candidate who has gone to such lengths to run a clean campaign and promote a "different kind" of politics. A good example: his website, responsible for a huge amount of that grassroots-style fundraising he has done, accepts no donations from lobbyists or special interest groups. I like that. I think Obama is going to continue to surprise.

hard to accept as very genuine, given his ultra liberal politics

I think there may be a little vocab issue at play here; one doesn't have to be right to be genuine. Whether or not he is right about his position on given issues is a more advanced discussion.

He doesn't have to be right to be genuine, but his history regarding this issue is not one that would be at odds with Jackson and Sharpton.

Sad that most of our politicians have sunk to such lows that they just can't be respected nor trusted!

how many issues involve Sharpton and Jackson?

What I am asking is whether you are referring to this particular incident with Imus or to something broader? Either way, I have seen nothing to indicate that Obama has conducted himself in a manner like Sharpton or Jackson, the former being - among other things - far too flamboyant to be taken seriously by anyone except like-minded individuals, and the latter being a documented hypocrite. Obama is clearly nothing like either of those two clowns.

Suddenly everyone on the Left has to be exactly in line with Sharpton and Jackson. Did I miss something on the news last night? Or is everyone on the Right falling in line behind Falwell and Robertson as well?
