Obama wrote a letter explaining that the stimulus programs in terms of spending on conservation technologies was going to create jobs, reduce greenhouse emissions, and stimulate the local economy.

“I was pleased that the primary objectives of their project will allow residents and businesess in the partner cities to reduce their energy costs, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and stimulate the local economy by creating new jobs,” Obama wrote to Energy Secretary Steven Chu.

not sure I see the point of this thread

Sorry, the letter was written in 2009 and was touting how part of the stimulus money used for conservation funding would reduce greenhouse emissions and create jobs. I should have made that clear.

So another failed BO plan. Thanks for pointing it out.

You don't think it was a good idea to do stimulus and try to spur some growth in conservation, make energy use more efficient, and generate jobs for the local economy? Shouldn't that be what the federal government does?

How many jobs did they create? How much economic growth did they spur? The only green initiative I can think of was Solendra(sp?).

It failed. So it wasn't a good idea.

No, because it failed. Would never work in the first place and was just a payoff to his buddies.

Want to stimulate the economy, create jobs and reduce pollution. Open the way for the private sector to build more nuclear plants, lay pipelines for natural gas, and build more refineries.

To answer your second question: No.

To answer your first question: It's all well and good to have that goal. But to waste taxpayer dollars by investing in failed business after failed business is beyond stupid, no matter what your intent.

no I don't think money given to cronies that ended up disappearing while their companies went bankrupt and the only jobs created were those to clean up the waste left behind is a positive.

Oh, you know what? I made one other mistake.

Obama didn't write that letter.

Paul Ryan did.

:birgits_giggle:

He wrote it asking for stimulus money for projects in his district, even after having voted against it on the floor. In fact, he wrote a series of four such letters. Worked, too. He got some of the stimulus money spent there in his district.

In Paul Ryan’s district, he supported US energy funds while decrying stimulus program - Political Intelligence - A national political and campaign blog from The Boston Globe - Boston.com

by far the dumbest thread you've ever made

Obama is still to blame for the failed stimulus that accomplished none of his goals. This thread is truly a work of art fail

Oh, I think it worked out pretty well, myself.

So? Still doesn't make it a good idea. And the fact that he asked for funding for projects after it was approved doesn't make him anything other than a good representative for his district.

This argument is similar to one that I often have with my kids. We vote on where we want to go eat. One kid always votes against the popular choice and grumbles about it. But when we get there he still gets to eat.

LG,

Can you confirm whether or not the organizations that Ryan championed are still in business?

Good one LG. You ever think of work in TV? I hear CNN may be looking to replace Piers Morgan. Worth looking into maybe.....

So, the Wisconsin organizations that Ryan went to bat for (and he, no doubt, is a hypocrite for doing so) received a total of $20,980,364.

In other words, less than 4% of what was crapped away on Solyndra alone.

LOL, I read fiction too. This just in, Nobama refuses to field questions on spending and the deficit during Romney debates. I guess he will just answer questions with, "Romney is bad, mmmkkaay", "Ryan is bad, mmmkkaaay".

No, the federal government needs to worry about it's own house. It needs to stay the hell away from "local" economies.....unless it is looking for future votes. Oh wait!!!
