I've "enjoyed" the vignettes from Texas and London / Manchester regarding the state of bourgeois society myself.

"The economy" to the average joe on the street means job creation. Interest rates have been low since Obama took office and we have not seen expansion. What we have seen is alot of banks borrowing money from the Fed at zero percent and using the capital to but long term T-bills that pay about 3 percent, which is a pretty nice setup if you can get it.
