I'm starting to believe that, he's scared to death one of his Muslim brethen will be punished.

Alternative dispositions = set him free.

WASHINGTON – The tricky case of an accused al-Qaida sleeper agent will take a little longer as Obama administration officials decide what to do with him.

President Barack Obama ordered the Justice Department on Thursday to review the case of Qatar native Ali al-Marri, the only enemy combatant currently being held on U.S. soil.

The directive seeks a delay in al-Marri's case before the Supreme Court while the review is ongoing. The government says al-Marri is an al-Qaida sleeper agent who has met Osama bin Laden and spent time at a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan.

A legal U.S. resident, al-Marri has been held in solitary confinement at a U.S. Navy brig near Charleston, S.C. since 2003. He was living in Peoria, Ill. when the FBI arrested him in December 2001 as a material witness to the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Initially, he was charged with credit card fraud, but authorities later said he had strong links to al-Qaida terrorists, so President Bush declared him an enemy combatant and transferred him to the military brig.

On Thursday, Obama signed an executive order for "a prompt and thorough review of the factual and legal basis for al-Marri's continued detention, and identify and thoroughly evaluate alternative dispositions."

I fail to see the outcry here. I have no desire to search for anything regarding al-Marri's detention right now. With the information I have in front of me, provided by SavageOrange, I have to say that the case for detaining him since 2003, without a trial, is incredibly weak.

I have absolutely no moral reservations concerning the indefinite detention of, what are essentially, prisoners of war, captured in theatres of war. I am most certainly at a standstill when a man is pulled over and charged with credit card fraud, on American soil, and held indefinitely, without trial, because authorities simply say that he has terrorist links.

From what I have seen here and in other articles, Obama froze proceedings already in progress.

Well if Holder holds true to form, he will probably
ask for clemency for them whether they want it
or not as he did for the FALN terrorists.

Well then, try to explain his long intimate
relationship with Ayers and Dohrn and his
new Attorney General, Holder who facilitated
the pardon of the FALN terrorists!!

If you can't begin to address such issues, then
we will have to consider all your posts as "dispatches
from la la land."

Examining the Obama hubris.

He said his administration would not “continue with
a false choice between our safety and our ideals.”

Pardon me but isn't one of our ideals to live in peace
without threat from those who would terrorize us into
adopting their values??

What a start, let's not drill for any oil and depend on the countries that despise us to continue to supply us with oil. Let's close Gitmo and never ever hurt one of these animals that would gladly strap a bomb on and walk into an elementary school if someone told him to.

A Saudi man who was released from Guantanamo after spending six years inside the U.S. prison camp has joined Al Qaeda's branch in Yemen and is now the terror group's No. 2 in the country, according to a purported Internet statement from Al Qaeda.

The announcement, made this week on a Web site commonly used by militants, came as President Barack Obama ordered the detention facility closed within a year.

The Yemen branch — known as "Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula" — said the man, identified as Said Ali al-Shihri, returned to his home in Saudi Arabia after his release from Guantanamo about a year ago and from there went to Yemen. The Internet statement, which could not immediately be verified, said al-Shihri was the group's second-in-command in Yemen and his prisoner number at Guantanamo was 372.

"He managed to leave the land of the two shrines (Saudi Arabia) and join his brothers in Al Qaeda," the statement said.

Documents released by the U.S. Defense Department show that al-Shihri was released from the facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in November 2007 and transferred to his homeland. The documents confirmed his prisoner number was 372.

"The lesson here is, whoever receives former Guantánamo detainees needs to keep a close eye on them," an American official told the New York Times.

NO....THE LESSON IS TO NOT TURN THESE KILLERS LOOSE!

Defend whom?

I am at least as much a patriot as you. Unlike you, I don't make false accusations based on ignorant beliefs and values. Your values are so srewed up you won't allow yourself to live in peace. I would make suggestions to help you through your torment, but pathetically, you are a lost cause. You might find some happiness in your life if you tried to focus on positive things. Just for a day. It would do you some good. And those around you

That is your right wing reactionary opinion. There is no proof they ever talked about potential terrorist activity
Pure garbage.

The day I care whatr some dolt like yourself thinks of me will be the day hell freezes over. Crawl back into your bubble

He is pointing out this man has made very poor choices in the people he surrounds himself with. There is no denying that he has an extraordinary amount of ties with people who a very fringe in their beliefs.

So, since we aren't torturing them, we are going to coddle them. That makes perfect sense, because there are certainly no options between torturing captives and treating them like they are at a 4 star hotel.
