I am so sick and tired of this communist piece of trash and his pals in the congress. I have never been this frustrated or concerned about the direction of our once great country.

it could happen but only with massive Medicare cuts and increased taxes. Just like a magician you need to watch both hands at once

This is the problem. This administration has more than two hands that you have to watch.

the CBO can only report on the legislation it's given.

if you start saving money for 4 years before you start spending, you're going to have a "surplus" after 10 years. The problem is in the second and successive decades.

also, where is this money going to go before it's spent on healthcare? Washington lies to us when it claims there's a Social Security lockbox.

I will guarantee you that any money collected under these new democrat taxing schemes will be spent long before it ever has a chance to be used for medical coverage.

This is so bad that even Tennessee's liberal governor says it will break the state's budget.

He also believes in bottom up economics. It's the surefire way to end recession. I can't wait until it takes hold.

He also said that critics who claim this is massive government spending are just plain wrong. Ummm, it is massive govt spending - to the tune of 1 trillion. The fact that tax increases and mystery spending cuts make it fictitiously deficit neutral doesn't NOT mean it's not a a massive spending increase. It is by any measure.

Not when you're campaigning. All's free in love and war.

no, the one FDR created when he signed Social Security into law

learn your history before you come in and play with the big boys

SSI was created by FDR. However, it as a pay-as-you go system at the time.

The "Lockbox", (or the original version of it) which I explicitly referred to in my post, was created in 1983/1984. This is around when the system switched from a pay-as-you-go system to putting extra money away for the future (ironically, in T-Bonds).

Hopefully my knowledge of history is acceptable to you.

Guys like FDR had no idea that our government wouldn't keep it pay as you go or would turn it into a free lunch program. No idea whatsoever.

I'm not familiar with this bill, but can someone in a nutshell who has read it explain to me how they are planning to bring the costs down?

I would really like to hear what they are planning to do because the only way that happens IMO is some kind of cost controls put in place, which in other words is limitations on health services.

bs. FDR was obama before obama. 100% believed in govt as the solution.

LBJ is the president that gave us welfare; i.e. food stamps, housing, etc. That wasn't FDR. FDR is more responsible for the numerous Federal agencies for everything. A lot of his programs were tempory, like the public works program etc.

Social security was sold to the American public as a mandatory government owned retirement fund.

Rail road employees were exempted because the fat cats that owned the rail roads had their own ponzi scheme.

Every bit of legislation that raped the fund was passed by a democrat majority legislature.

If SS were private the owners would be put in prison for fraud.

Trying to blame Reagan is like giving Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter the Nobel peace prize.

It can be done but that doesn't make it right.

Take the current situation for instance, while passing out trillions to fat cat wall streeters, no raise for those who are drawing their well earned retirement checks.

It's painfully obvious your knowledge of history is puny, paltry and pitiful. :)

I think you have seriously misunderstood my reply.

The poster, MG1968, said something about the SS "Lockbox" and added some cryptic statement about how the government is somehow lying about it.

I asked a clarifying question, whether he was referring to the "lockbox" created by Reagan in 1983.

He apparently was not; he says he is referring to some magical, nonexistent, invisible lockbox which was created prior.

I'm not "blaming" Reagan for anything. I'm not sure where you're going here?
