Obama and Biden voted against money for Katrina victims

VIDEO

Obama and Biden voted against money for Katrina victims - YouTube

So not only did Obama lie about our government not giving Stafford Act money to Katrina victims

but Obama and Biden both voted against giving money for Katrina.... wow just wow

1. Obama did not lie about the Stafford Act. The 10% contribution was not waived in the immediate aftermath of Katrina, as it was in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 and Andrew.

2. Voted against giving money to repair a bridge; moreover, have you thought that maybe he voted against it on a condition that the Stafford contribution be waved? So long as the Stafford contribution was in place, the City of New Orleans and State of Louisiana would have to cough up 10% of whatever money flowed into New Orleans.

If I remember correctly (I could be wrong), the Stafford contribution was not waived until the summer of 2007 (or, two years after Hurricane Katrina).

No. The "vote against money for Katrina" was a vote against money specifically ear-marked to repair a bridge leading to New Orleans.

Well, turns out that just 10 days prior to Obama’s speech there was a vote in the Senate on HR 2206, the U.S. Troop Readiness, Veterans’ Care, Katrina Recovery, and Iraq Accountability Appropriations Act of 2007. That House Resolution amounted to a $6.9 billion appropriation to the Gulf Coast which would waive the Stafford Act.

And guess which way Obama voted?

He voted AGAINST IT. He was one of just 14 Senators to vote against appropriating $7 billion to Katrina relief with no strings attached.

WTF?

Did McCain give a speech that stated government treated African-American New Orleans, differently than those suffering after 9/11?

when he in fact was one that voted against giving them aid

I was merely questioning the statement in the video saying that McCain did not vote. Thinking there were riders attached to the bill. But thanks to TennesseeOrange for providing the links showing that President Obama did vote for the relief.

That's not the Stafford Act referred to, was just showing they voted for relief in many other instances. The Stafford Act was a combination of a bunch crap, i.e. military spending and relief for Katrina.

No strings attached, aside from the following:

Bill Summary & Status - 110th Congress (2007 - 2008) - H.R.2206 - All Information - THOMAS (Library of Congress)

Seems like upwards of 90% of that bill is concerned with funding two wars and homeland security. That seems like a rather large string.

Anyway, that is a weak retort volmaverick. The fact is, consideration to waive the contribution should have been brought before Congress and should have passed Congress prior to late summer 2007 (or two years after the disaster).
