Obama vs Romney in the general election

I still think that Romney has the least chance of beating Obama. I have from the start. The general election will come down to a referendum on Obama and the excitement level of the conservative base. Romney's actual policies in practice do not provide a clear contrast to Obama. His "state level" argument on Obamacare is too complex for the "moderate voters" and won't overcome the counter argument that he supported the same thing as governor. He does not excite the conservative base at all. They KNOW he is not a conservative. He isn't really even a moderate. He is VERY MUCH a "conservative" progressive meaning he wants big gov't power but wants to use it to benefit a different constituency.

He would make the accusation that the GOP is the party of the rich ring VERY true.... because he WOULD favor the rich.

Santorum kind of blew his chances IMO with some of his recent "big gov't" conservative statements. I do not think the country is in the mood to have morality dictated from the left or the right. Newt's chances are pretty slim but IMHO he would have the best chances against Obama. He has different ideas and would destroy Obama in debate.

You shouldn't pay much attention to polls before the nomination is made. People are seeing a messy process played out. They'll forget about it within weeks of having a nominee. That said, the remaining 3 are likely to struggle for different reasons. Once there is a nominee you can be sure that they'll be subjected to a vetting that Obama has never seen. The MSM will go into overdrive to destroy them and reelect Obama. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the remaining candidates can stand up under the assault they are about to experience.

The fix is pretty much in. Candidates who might have been stronger were dissuaded or destroyed by the media already. The left goes into overdrive when they see someone who might be another "Reagan". I just hope the GOP can get control of the Senate to create a divided "do nothing" gov't so we can get the economy going again. It would also be nice to see some pretty strong oversight of some of the misdeeds of the Obama admin.

I am about 75% sure right now that Obama will win.

The MSM is not destroying the GOP candidates. It was a terrible field from the beginning. Then the primary hit and Romney, being a moderate, got tore up by his own kind.

You are delusional if you do not think that the MSM hates real conservatives who are popular with the base and does not destroy for those facts alone.

There is not a real conservative in the running so I wouldn't know.

Paul on a GOP ticket, as opposed to a third party ticket, is the only candidate Obama is genuinely worried about.

I can't see Obama losing unless he implodes, the economy implodes or we have another major terrist attack on us here at home.

I can't see anybody that voted for Santorum turning around and voting for Paul. Or vice versa. You can't be further apart and still be in the same party than those two. Santorum is a book burning, war hawk Paul is a libertarian non-interventionist. Romney is in the middle, but that aint saying much. If Santorum is Neptune and Paul is Mercury, I guess Romney is on the Jupiter side of the asteroid belt. In other words, Paul and Santorum are miles apart from one another.

I see this in the exact opposite fashion actually. I think this primary is going to head into an open convention. When this happens I believe that the GOP may catch on to the fact that Paul is the only person who could beat Obama. A friend of mine at ETSU and I got curious about the large amount of votes for Santorum and did a little investigative research. We each interviewed 150 students who voted for Rick Santorum (A difficult feat, for he is not popular at all with students) and learned that out of 300 students, 47% of them were Democrats, who were voting for Santorum to draw Romney down. Out of that 47%, 31% of them said they would be voting for Paul should he win the nomination. You're probably wondering "Why didn't they just vote for Paul?" If you register to vote as a democrat then your vote in the Republican primary carries no power in the delegate vote, but only the popular vote.

Most Republicans are anti-Obama first and foremost. Santorum supporters would cast a vote for Paul because it is a vote against Obama.

You do not register as a democrat or republican in Tennessee.
If voting in the primaries, when signing in at the precinct the voter checks a box if he/she is voting in Dem or GOP primary.
If voting in the presidential primary, the voter also votes for the delegates.
