i see. so if his administration wants it he may not be in support of it?

It had a comment by a Pentagon spokesperson and cited to health personnel in the Pentagon, but your thread title is "Obama wants to ban smoking in the military." Your implied basically a message of "Here goes that liberal Obama again" but that doesn't seem a fair characterization of the story.

I can believe he would be for this. From the article though, I can't see that he "wants it". Can't hold him to the being responsible for every little administrator that gets over zealous in their job. But again, I can see him supporting it if it ever reaches that point.

you know the reason they are giving to ban it lawgator? because the taxpayers are paying the military's health insurance. what happens when we have universal healthcare? don't you think this same justification could be used to ban a lot of things?

I find myself in agreement with you.

Which means its time to take a bath with the hair dryer plugged in.

he's already said he supports it, in principle. one of his talking heads was on CNBC arguing agressively for it. you think obama let's his people go on national TV and say things he doesn't agree with?

if they banned smoking, people would kill each other. I had a captain on my ship who smoked about 3 packs a day and drank about 2 cases of diet coke a day. i would not be suprised if he's had a heart attack or stroke by now.

if they banned smoking, then they'll lose more taxes. i figure that hussein would encourage all Americans to smoke to help raise more taxes.

LOL. I already had the line in bold in my head after reading your first sentence and before getting to the part in bold.

Have not seen any of this. Was just going by the article. Like I said, I don't doubt you are right. Just have not seen any of this on TV and did not get it from the article. No big deal.

A ban on smoking may not be that big a deal in the Army. Smoking is kind of a hassle anyway. You can't really smoke while your in the field and in garrison the designated smoking areas are a pain to get to. But I would be pissed if they tried to take away dip when I was in the Army. After a couple of days with no sleep a big fat dip was the only thing that could keep me alert, especially if there was no way to get coffee.

But how will this help us identify ourselves more with France? 35% of their population smokes regularly.
