I've noted an interesting phenomenon with the other polling organizations or how the results are reported. When things started getting tough for Bush, the reports and polls carefully drew a distinction between his personal popularity and job approval. Of course after they destroyed the guy's image that effort was no longer needed. Obama's ratings haven't been parsed like that. Maybe there is no difference... but I suspect there is.

I am not saying I thought Bush did a bang up job btw... just that he took some pretty unfair abuse in the media that has not been applied in kind to the current Prez.

They are scared because of the spin that would be put on it.

Not sure I buy this. It's a matter of perspective. Depending on your point of view, it can be argued Obama is getting unfair treatment based on the mess left by the previous administration and Bush got a bump in the polls for not other reason than he was president when we got attacked. Likewise, it could be said Obama is getting a pass on certain things Bush didn't (vacation time, etc) and not called out like Bush was on the political cronyism blatant in his policies. Realistically, it is probably a wash. I'm not sure Obama's presidency is getting roasted any more or less than any other president.

Not taking a stand here either way, just saying whoever is in office generally gets scrutinized equally, just in different areas based on political party agendas.

Sorry RJD, but I gotta disagree. If you don't think both Barack and Michelle are getting less scrutiny than other POTUS's and FL's then you need to hang a right at the next intersection and venture back into the real world. The press in general, the left wing stations certainly, and even Fox are having to take precautions as to how they might criticize either of them. To think otherwise is out of step with reality.

Any hard proof of this, or just your perception/perspective/opinion? For that matter, please define what would be too much scrutiny for Obama. Almost Bush's entire first term he could do no wrong because the country was united. It wasn't until his second term and post presidency did most of the Bush scrutiny come to fruition.

I honestly don't have a dog in this fight either way. I'm just saying, you ask a liberal democrat about Bush and they will say he largely got away with too much and the fox news shrill painted him as the perfect president. You ask a red-blooded conservative about Obama and they will say the liberal press paints him as the perfect president of the people.

I still contend this is largely an issue of perspective. Just out of curiosity, do you consider yourself a liberal or conservative?

In the immortal words of John Ward, "Matters little."

Will be re-elected in 2012. Moreover, I predict that he its announced before 11:00pm EST on election night.

No punchline is forthcoming. Straight up prediction.

FWIW, Bush was never painted as "the anti-Christ" like Obama is.

IMO, the Obama birther/muslim nonsense is just as retarded as the Bush drunk/idiot nonsense.

As far as presidency and real critcism goes...I don't care for either Bush or Obama.

Oh well.

Rather have a punchline but fear you maybe right. In the absence of a good opponent he'll be skating on.

This is a little dated, but makes the point. Regarding your question above... I lean right but it depends on the subject matter.

As NewsBusters reported Monday, comedians just can't bring themselves to poke fun at Barack Obama.

This problem apparently is troubling CBS "Late Show" host David Letterman:

The challenge for us here at the "Late Show": what are we going to do to make fun of the President, because that's what we do, we take cheap shots at the President. And, we didn't know what to do the first four years of Clinton. We thought, "Wow, what's going on there?" And BINGO, in comes the heavy set intern, and BOOM. That was great. And then Bush proved to be another mother lode, I mean, what a rich deep vein that was. But now we're, thank you, but we don't know what to do with Barack Obama because he comes in and he hits the ground running, and whether he's doing anything good, he's at least doing stuff. He's gone crazy, he's always doing stuff. And I said, "Oh, God, I'm going to have to go back to telling toothpaste jokes."

Realizing this wouldn't be good, Letterman got one of his writers to finally come up with some Obama jokes, but as you'll see from the embedded video below the fold, they all bashed -- wait for it!!! -- Bush.

Wow. I guess they still can't bring themselves to make jokes about Obama, can they?

It honestly doesn't matter even if he does get relected. He's lost his power. More dem Senate seats are up for re-election during his potential 2nd term than Reps seat. The republicans will keep the house and gain the senate it it will just be a lock during the remainder of his career.
