Was at the game with my son. Was looking forward to seeing the high powered offense in the flesh. Here are a few observations I can share with VN:

1) The team seemed “off” all night from the crowd. It was as if they were playing in GA. again. The crowd was hyped and expected to be throttled. They never stopped scoring and the crowd got rowdier and more energized.

2) There was a lot of orange there, ready to cheer but…we were stunned frim the first possession and mostly kept at bay.

3) USCs top running backs out forced them to play the pass—which totally played in their favor. As anyone could see on TV, the defense got no pressure on Rattler and he torched them all night.

4) Tillman and Hyatt and Hooker seemed ‘off’, and couldn’t get in a rhythm. You could see it in the body language the entire game. CJH always talks about what fighters they are, but this was truly an off night. Many of the overthrows were not on the QB, but the receivers looked like they gave up the route early and we’re hoping for the flag.

5) USC fans were the worst Ive ever met. Maybe it was the section we were in? LOTs of drunks, lots of bird flipping and lots of F-Us from the fans. They were surprisingly insufferable. Ive been to a lot of stadiums, and this ranks as one of the worst.

6) The orange helmets were not good IMO. Im all for the players picking and being excited, but this was not one of the better looks. Looked very much like Clemson during the game.

7) Kicking was abysmal.

8) All the MISSED TACLKES- sheesh! When UT played GA, one thing I noticed was GA didn’t miss a tackle all day. UT was not making any stops last night. Any.

Its really hard to think of anything positive from the night. We know the defense has struggled but has come through on occasion this year. No adjustments, no hair on fire. This one was hard to understand and hard to watch.

9-1, looking for win number 10 and a chance to slide into the CFP, Heisman hopeful…I don’t think they could have performed any worse. The flu and RSV are terrible in Knoxville right now. If someone told me the team was struggling with illness, I would believe it because that is what it looked like.

I really like Heupel and it will be interesting to see how he rebounds.

Thanks for the birds eye view of the game...it wasn't any better watching on the TV. It was a total butt kicking in the Nth degree. Lots of posters on here want the DC fired. IMHO this D never was championship level from Day 1. Time to get some serious recruits and transfers playing on that side. In a sad note from last night I fear that we have lost Hendon Hooker for what's left for the season. He's had a heckuva 2 years for the Vols. I was screaming at the TV before he came out for his final play for CJH to put Joe Milton in the game as the cause was already decided. Before my scream had finished Handon suffered the knee injury.

Vols better regroup and motivate fast or Vandy will send them to the Liberty Bowl. This is a poor road team and needs leadership to step up. Some of the playcalling was not great either.

Seems like when we sent pressure Rattler would escape due to him being 5 star talent and make a play. So we backed off from sending pressure and would drop back into coverage and he would pick us apart due to his 5 star talent. When we had right coverage he would thread the needle due to his 5 star talent. Rattler played up to his ability. This is a QB driven game, when given time most at this level can produce.

Our defense is at a talent level that needs to gamble more. Dropping back into coverage isn’t the answer.

What was up with the condition of the field?

I made myself watch it to the end. Horrible and distressing, but, props to usc for figuring it out. Their fans were the twelth man.

Ole Miss @neyland says Hi.
They stop play after the facemask call because the students started pelting the field with water bottles. According to our surrounding drunks, this happens quite a but there.

Fan in front of us downed a fireball after each USC score, then proceeded to puch the metal seat back until his knuckles bled everytime UT scored. Truly sad.

They threw a few water bottles and play was resumed in 3 or 4 minutes. They didn't throw mustard containers and golf balls. They threw water bottles into an empty end zone for the most part. You know this.

Worst zone defense I’ve ever seen. But I guess they have to play that since our DB’s can’t cover a statue.

Rattler had the game of his life last night. He's peaked. Meh. It's just so Tennessee that it was against us. We'd better circle this one for next year, tho.

I was there too and agree with everything here. From the minute I parked we were getting cursed and middle fingers thrown at us. Been to the Swamp and the Gator fans were much more friendly. Everything seemed off even when the team got off the bus. They looked like they had little energy. Fans no doubt showed up with a huge tennessee section in the lower bowl

If the team had the flu bug, I could get behind that a bit, from my couch, it looked lik and internal meltdown where they just looked dis interested. It’s was almost like a a Div. 3 schools was wearing our uniforms.

Sounds totally accurate.

I chalk up their fans behavior to being indoctrinated into being Gamecock fans and living in upstate SC. They have to lash out at the hand they have been dealt somehow.

Road games to Columbia suck. Good on you and yours for making the trip.

This has been my experience too. And it’s been that way through multiple trips there, and it’s hard to understand why they’re so awful, because they’ve never won jacksh*t.

I’ve been asked what’s the worst fan base in the SEC many times, having traveled to just about every SEC venue multiple times (haven’t been to Arkansas, Mizzou or Miss State) and my quick answer without hesitation is South Carolina, easy.

I had a guy call me a “Cuban mfr,” and no I don’t speak Spanish and no I don’t look particularly Cuban, had another guy grab my shirt, they were especially horrendous to Florida fans when they had Spurrier.

I'm a bit frustrated this morning along with all of you guys ! I feel like we broke the golden rule of NEVER EVER EVER UNDERESTIMATE your opponent. We left our fight and and grit in Knoxville. We showed up for a dance. Reset my azz as CJH calls it . Everybody missed that button . Rattler had time in the pocket for popcorn and a drink . Honestly don't think Rattler is that good, I think we were that bad and unprepared. He had forever to find his targets and pick our bones clean . They will need to find that dang reset button next Saturday or this crap will continue in Nashville. Hooker was off and now injured. His condition I don't know. Milton needs to be throwing into the wind or aim at the receiver feet . Last night was just a total sh-t show . Reminded me of the Georgia game . Our defense line couldn't brake into a 50 year old hen house . I need to stop :) GBO. Win out !

I agree with #5. Most SC fans were very nice; however, there was a some sitting in front of us who were there not to watch the game but rather see who could be the most obnoxious. I thought half way through the game the only two words they could put together were F…Y…. And throwing birds to everyone in orange around them. Beer wasn’t good enough for them they smuggled in some hard liquor and as they got more intoxicated they started arguing with themselves (which proved to be very comical). But the best part was when they started physically assaulting each other! Unfortunately they pulled into the fight some folks in orange. After the police arrived and removed the worst offenders things calmed down a bit, but the two couples in front of us continued on even after the game. We finally moved to another spot just to get away from them. And the fans who flipped us off downtown were also a special little treat.

We have been here there several times (as well as every other SEC stadium except for A&M). Last night was the worst I have ever seen any fan base behave by far. I will think twice about ever going back there.
