I have to vent on a few things before I lose it:

1. Trae Golden is PAINFUL to watch right now. He is playing uninspired basketball and is making awful decisions (i.e. lob pass to Hall, who can't catch a cold when were down 5 with a min and half to play). Play Washpun or anyone else. Hell, play Summitt, but make Golden watch for a game.

2. We do something good for a half and then stop doing it. Miller and Maymon dominated CoC in the first half so we stopped going inside in the second half. Instead, we stood around the perimeter jacking up 3s.

3. McRae and McBee are playing well right now. Skylar has been the biggest surprise so far IMO. He looks quicker and is shooting lights out. McRae is unstoppable at times and is probably our best overall player at this point.

4. Way to provide that senior leadership Cam. How is it possible not to improve at ALL in 4 years?

5. Kenny Hall - is it really that hard to catch a basketball? 4-stars my a*s. If there is ever an argument for how completely bogus the rating system is, then he's the poster child. Soft is the perfect word for him.

6. This is 9-10 win team. Laugh, but think about it.

It is BRUTAL to be a fan of TN athletics right now.

1. Agree 100%. Trae is a terrible point guard. His decision making is horrendous, and his on-ball defending is terrible.

2. How many minutes did Miller play the 2nd half? I thought he was great in the 1st half, then we barely used him the 2nd half.

3. The 2 best players on the team right now IMO. Mcrae has by far the greatest potential will be the best all around player if he can be taught some discipline and defense. Right now he reminds me of a player who would be playing for Memphis. Mcbee is a guy that knows his role on the team. A player that needs to consistently hit the open 3 to stretch the defense.

4. He hasn't improved at all, and it's even been 5 years not 4.

5. Can't say anything about Kenny Hall. The absolute worst player on the court at all times IMO. I would rather have Miller or Yemi in there anytime.

6. Yes, they r horrible right now. We can only hope and pray for Stokes to be here in January!!

Forgot. you're right, Tatum is a 5th year senior. And they were bragging about him graduating. What a joke.

McBee is awful. Gets beat on defense repeatedly, can't handle the ball, and makes some of his threes. We were gettin crapped on, McBee throwing up threes with thirty seconds left on the shot clock killed what little mo we had. Miller was the best player on the floor the first half, then made a cameo appearance late in second half. Also as stated before, golden needs to be benched for atleast some of his bonehead mistakes. He was a turnover machine tonight, lousy passes and awful shots. It's hard to watch entire games this year. With that said, go vols and screw everyone else.

Mcbee was the 3rd best player for us on the floor last night. He should be the 8th or 9th. If he doesn't launch, we lose by 20.

1 on 1 this team couldn't gaurd a water cooler. He needs to switch up his defenses and play a 2-3 or 1-3-1 zone to help keep teams from shooting lay ups all night long.

Its discouraging to be in that situation but I think this is reality. I am a high school basketball coach and much prefer man-to-man defense. So does Martin. But as a coach you must adapt to the strengths of the team. When he gets his own recruits in I have a strong feeling they will be players capapble of playing man-to-man defense. This group is just not capapble. Our guards cannot contain penetration. Our post players are not strong helpside defenders. We are long and would probably be more effective in a zone. Specifially a 1-2-2 zone would fit our personnel.

So if McBee doesn't make the lone three in the second half, then we lose by twenty? What about McRae threes? McBee is awful, he has got hustle and thats about it. Awful shot selection, awful ball handling, and he is always getting beat to the basket, always.

Agree with your defensive assessment. Do you think a 1-2-2 puts too much onus on Trae Golden to stop the PG from penetrating beyond the top of the key though?

Defensively, I think this team would benefit from some moderate 3/4 court pressure. Every second spent getting the ball up the floor is a second the guys don't have to try to stay with their man one-on-one. Not a full on attempt to press like Pearl's first years but just something to maybe create an extra turnover or two and burn some shot clock for the other team.

CoC's 3/4 court trap gave us fits. With our length, it could be effective. I just question whether we are smart enough as a team to stay disciplined within a press.

Problem is, most of our starters should be coming off the bench. Some of the guys that get minutes, shouldn't even be seeing the floor. It's that talent thing we keep talking about. Until our talent improves, we are stuck here.

This is 100% correct for McBee's first 2 seasons. However, you're crazy if you haven't seen the substantial improvement he made over the offseason. He's shooting 47% from 3, including wide open shots (his former nemesis), and not blowing nearly as many defensive assignments. Everyone knows I have a distain for McBee, but he deserves credit for improving himself to a competent player.

Absolutely agree! The guy only played 19 minutes so hard to believe the grief he is getting for this game. Offense isn't even close to our problem anyway, defense is where we are losing games - this man on man defense is giving other teams open shots everywhere. Reincarnating Lofton on this team wouldn't change anything if they continue to defense this way.
