Fulmer told ESPN he thought that UT played well enough to win (its on their website in wrap-up of the game).

I am not getting that at all. When Florida layed an egg against 'bama, Meyer was all over them, publicly and privately, and I think it had an effect and got the team re-focused on trying to get to 5-1.

But to say that UT played well enough to win when it had no sustained scoring drive at all is absurd. I understand he's a coach and there's a bit of rah-rah and a bit of trying to encourage the team. But, I don't think it does anybody any good to sugar-coat the situation.

You all have been watching him for a lot longer and much more closely than I. Is he always like that? Is this typical of Fulmer or ostrich head in the sand?

Lgator, it is bizarro world. That may be the problem. Good is bad, and bad is good.

I read that and I thought he was referring to this week's practice, lawgator.
:dunno:

Fulmer just isn't the kind of coach to get after the players much. A mistake = a pat on the head. It's just not his style. If you ask me, there needs to be some coaches getting in the faces of the players.

I would say that is typical Fulmer.

Do you like that or would you rather see some fire and brimstone? Think about it before you answer because I don't want you to decide out of frustration.

"Obviously we're very disappointed in the loss. I thought we had a really great week of preparation coming into the game," coach Phillip Fulmer said. "Defensively, I thought we played well enough to win the ballgame

Defensively being the key word.

I'd rather see him take responsiblity and be held accountable for it. If he needs to condemn people to hell.... I just don't know.

ENORMOUS correction. The quote is "Defensively, I thought we played well enough to win the ballgame."

Totally my bad there. Sorry!

LIO, you posted as I was typing. Can you take this thread down? The correction resolves it and its a big difference!

Remember lawgator, this is from the same head coach who admits our offense is the same as it has been for the last 20 years and doesnt need to change.

Did he really say that? I screwed up the quote to start this thred, but did he actually say the offense is fine the way it is? Did he mean the scheme?

They honestly think they are one play away from blowing this offense wide open. Its bizarro world, and there is no logic. 1+1=3.

Well, I know this isn't close to coaching college football but look at Pat Summit. She gets after her players and look how they perform for her. It's all about the respect. If a coach is mean then players want to go out and earn that respect from the coach and hopefully avoid a confrontation in front of God and everybody.

no this was one of the commentators on the after game radio show who played for the 85 vols under majors. "vanilla is good" he talked to cutcliffe etc and according to him the quote was from Cutcliffe.

It was Mark Hovanic (Sp. ??) the guy who is always on the program. He was defending the "Tennessee style of offense" and Randy Sanders. Was saying he had talked to Cutcliffe who had basically defended Sanders and his style of football....blah blah blah

yep thats the guy......seemed pretty obvious to me they were trying to save someones face and possibly their job....i got the impression maybe they were even personal friends or former teammates. needless to say i'm not impressed. we dont need more propaganda from the booth on what was obviously a very poorly played game on the offensive side of the ball.

The Mark guy played on the 1985 Sugar Bowl team that celebrated Friday night! What I thought was interesting was when people called in and complimented the defense, it seemed to me that he tried to say that the defense did not play that well. I thought he was rather defensive of the offense, Clausen, Sanders, etc. One called just plain said that we had to have a change to which Mark H. strongly disagreed! Yep, friends most likely but certainly not responding well to the callers I thought.

WRONG!!!

Before the NC came his way, I can recall plenty of times when the O-Line would be stinking up the joint and CPF would rip off his headphones, start chewing on the line as it left the field, continue to hold "prayer meeting" as they sat on the bench, and keep chewing until they took the field again.

The line invariably responded.

I haven't seen him do that since he got that Sears Trophy in his hands.

Somebody needs to point out to him that he didn't win Coach of the Year honors in '98 by patting guys on the butt and doing that lame mini-Gator clap of his.

Of course, he wasn't making $2.5 mil per year then, either.
