With all the coaching changes in the last few years. Who does it hurt more O or D? I would like to think it hurts the offense because of all the different plays and how each coach changes the names of the plays. Fire away VN

From an x and o standpoint it's the offense. They flipped from a completely different scheme to a more "power spread" and also moved to an uptempo, fast-paced style.

I think the pace will be faster with the offense this year after one year under our belt in this new system.

I would think it is offense for the same reasons ATLVols mentions. We were in the 3-4 for one year on defense, and while that was a disaster in itself, our lack of speed and ability have been evident against teams of higher caliber. We have had playmakers on offense. We just haven't put it together yet.

Agree , I just wonder how that last year of dools hurt us in recruiting . I think a hot seat coach is behind the 8 ball from the get go. I'll admit I went to the last bowl game and was rooting for dools. I didn't know he was driving the bus off the cliff with the pedal on the floor.

The changes certainly hurt the offense more. Offense is all about timing and coordination of the various parts. Defense always develops faster than offense, because it is reacting to what the opponents offense is doing. With the exception of stunts and blitzes, defense is all about the players reading the offensive set and being in the right location. Defense boils down to "tackle the guy with the ball" while offense is a lot more nuanced.

Probably offense, but when you see the defensive guys turning their heads twice before reacting, it is too late. Butchisms: "Mental toughness". "Eye Discipline".

It really depends on what year and what coaching changes you are talking about. It's hard to argue that trying to play a 3-4 on defense all of a sudden, with players recruited to play in a 4-3, didn't have the most brutal effect over this down period.

The good news is that it should have little change this year with the whole staff being the same.

I can't wait to see our D this being year two in the same system. With the shot of new talent and the return of AJ and Maggitt .

I would think trying to "unlearn" the Sunseri defense would be the hardest.

I don't think he had a defensive scheme, that was the problem. Probably a good position coach just not a coordinator.

Can't really unlearn something that was never taught. lol

In a complete staff change, I would go with offense. Defense is usually ahead of offense when there are coaching changes early in fall camp. But as mentioned by another poster, it all depends on the schematic changes on each side of the ball.
