It truly is a pleasure to watch a basketball team that has an offense and executes it like Notre Dame.

Notre Dame has feasted on Tennessee's defense in recent years with the back door cuts ad pic n rolls, making it look so easy! Tennessee staff has yet to discover what hit them, lol. ND has a coach who practices OFFENSE in EVERY practice, not just as an after thought maybe once a week on Sunday...and it shows.

It's a question we've asked for years. It doesn't take a nuclear physicist to watch tape of successful teams & break down what they're doing right. And then institute the same offense with your players.

It's not as though the LV execute so well against other teams & then just have trouble when running into stout defenses from strong teams. They stand around motionless against the "tune-up" teams early in the season and against the cellar-dwellers of the SEC later.

CHW can't be that stupid, and the players can't be that inept, selfish, or unwilling to follow instructions.

The only answer is that CHW (following CPS's previous pattern but doubling down on it) doesn't value offense as a priority. Defense & rebounding has been the mantra for decades, but it not only isn't enough any more, it's just plain ugly basketball to watch even when they win.

Speaking of offense...

When did it become trendy for announcers to talk about players needing to "trust the offense?"

The term just rubs me the wrong way. I suppose it's a euphemism for trusting the coach, trusting the game plan, trusting the strategy, trusting your teammates, etc.

But good teams don't need to "trust" the offense...they just need to run the offense. They should be out there executing what they've practiced, not thinking about it.

And if players have no confidence in the strategy or want to play Lone Ranger, then it's time to either get new players or get a new coach.

Or both.

Couldn't agree more and have said the same thing in the past. I will admit I enjoy watching men's BB a little more than women's due to the difference in athleticism. But ND's offense is a thing of beauty. Like watching the era of Havlicek. Unfortunately most of the times I've seen it, we were the ones getting burnt. And our absolute absence of anything resembling an offense makes it even worse.

We have an incompetent offense and this is why HW must be sacked. She is utterly clueless.

Well said ! And it don`t help having players like Nared and Graves just throwing up off balance shots and the basket that`s HW fault she has seen this from game one and has not address this problem with the two.

So you think Holly hasn't tried to explain to them what a good shot and bad shot is??? I've seen her harp on taking "effiencent" shots all season!!! In the GB game...Dunbar had just hit a 3 and the very next possession was WIDE OPEN and Nared drives wildly to the basket and throws up.......well honestly I don't even want to call it a shot, instead of passing back out to Dunbar. Some how some way, things like that get blamed on Holly....it's ridiculous! Holly has her faults with game management for sure but these girls throw up shots and do the DUMBEST **** I've ever seen on the court in all my years watching basketball and I just can't fathom Holly not trying to correct that. I see why Holly is at a loss for words sometimes....this team's shooting would drive me crazy!!!!

I'm also wondering does anyone attend the practices or are in the locker room or actually have a relationship with any of the coaches or players because the way some posters put words in their mouths and are able to some how know EXACTLY what is being said to these players, you would think so.

You are correct, creekdipper, concerning CHW and her mentor CPS as to their emphasize on defense and rebounding. CPS's offense scheme was to keep the game close with a shutdown defense then turn the LV offense over to an unstoppable offensive player (e.g., Candace Parker, Chamique Holdsclaw, Bridgette Gordon). She use this scheme to win 8 national titles and over a thousand wins.

O wow I never knew that.....did Pat tell you this was her offensive game plan for those 8 titles or are you just making an observation on what you THINK was the offense Pat ran???

It's not just or even predominantly an issue of shot selection - although giving CHW a pass on chronic poor shot selection is kinda silly - it is her team. But the issue is (and has been for years) actually having an offense. ND's movement, fundamentals, mental aspects of the game produces a lot of layups or wide open mid-range shots. The same simply cannot be said for us.

At the end of the day....you can run the most well designed offense in the universe but if you can't actually put the ball in the basket....it makes the offense look poor. Until we can get some guards that actually put the ball in the basket then we'll continue to see one of the greatest Basketball Dynasties in the country crumble.

I made this observation on what I KNOW was the late game offense that Pat ran. I am not being critical of CPS. As I wrote, she won 8 national championships and over a thousand games.

Let`s be real Holly is not the in your face coach like most of the top teams coaches are. She don`t hold players accountable for bad turnover or bad shots. I watch WV vs OH St today WV lost the game but we all saw on tv there coach Mike Carey rip players and hold them accountable bad turnovers. That`s not Holly style and that`s why this team perform poorly this season.

How about some POSTS and FORWARDS who can shoot and hit layups?

Holly will never be an elite HC. If Hart won't fire her, he could at least force her to make staff upgrades to help compensate for her shortcomings. But he won't do that, either. So what we saw this year is what we'll see next year: same coaches, same players, same results.

Only assistant coach I think we need to look at is Dean. I have been impressed with what I have seen from the guards (Te'a, Jackson, Reynolds as of late) as well as the forwards (Diamond, Nared, Dunbar) I have been a little disappoint of the lack of development or playing to their potential in our post players (Russell and Graves) Moore has been consistent this year and has been her entire career when given a chance and I think would be better if given more time at the 4 instead of the 5
