I do too.

As far as the smoke screen idea goes, I just don't believe that (not your logic, just the smokescreen logic in general). I think that misinformation is generated in these sorts of cases by fans who just shout out any name, and when one gains enough repetition within a fan base, it seems like that name has some traction as those same people call into call in shows, or post on blogs, that we all read. In other words, it is totally possible that we have created an echo that we all hear and believe the sound is coming from somewhere else.

Perhaps you are right. Does it make you feel any better that a second national media member today mentioned UT and Gruden?

Does anyone at all on here have any connections to webb? I understand that this is prob. about a 3% chance it actually happened but just want to verify

Here comes Gruden Claus,
Here comes Gruden Claus,
Right down VolWalk Lane,
Graham and all his winning football staff
Pullin' on the reins.
Bells are ringin', fans are singin',
All is merry and bright.
So hang your stockings and say your prayers,
'Cause Gruden Claus is coming…alright!
As he shouts Merry Christmas to all my grudenites and to all a good life!

Good points. I'm open to hearing other views because I have read your posts and know you are a true Tennessee fan but when people come in here and say "if you think Gruden would come here then you are retarded" I tend to shut down. I must admit that the things you say are logical and scare me that it might be the case. Even billionaires are still human however and TALK.

I really appreciate the compliment. I want what is best for my Alma Mater both on and off the field. I also truly love being involved in these discussions as long as, like you suggest, they are rational. I cannot say that Gruden is an impossibility (secretly I believe deep down that he is coming) but the other half of my brain keeps telling me to stop it.

Where I have trouble with all of this is when I think to myself "could I convince a non-UT fan that Gruden is likely to UT by just using the information that I have used to convince myself (from this site)?" The answer is a no, that is laughable. So, I take a step back and wait until someone can give me something to make me realize that I have just been burying my head in the sand and that this is all real.

Thank goodness you left out the "woo."

Jon Gruden attractive but least likely option if Birds change head coaches - delcotimes.com

Seems like Philly, Cleveland, Dallas - more people are comming out saying that these teams are looking at coaches like Chip Kelley, Sean Peyton, and Bill O'Brien.

Also take into considerations that Andy Reid gets $5.5 next year at Philly?

Could UT pay $5.5 for Gruden over 3 years as a starting point?

Bama generated $52 million in revenue and kept $32 million in profit in Saban's first season there. Saban's staff makes around $9 million a year.

I think it's feasible to pay Gruden and staff $9-$10 million a year if it revitalizes the fanbase and gets tickets and merchandise sold.

Some are making this hire out to be more secretive than the darn Manhattan Project or D-Day with the diversion forces set to barrack at Calais. Wow.

My brother teaches there. I called him when I read it on the cliff notes and he said that he hasn't heard a thing about it.

Wow, after reading this I realized we are at exactly the same place....HA! It has helped me though that national media types may be on the story now.

Yes. But I know that Gruden himself has said that both UT and Notre Dame would interest him so when a media guy says that he THINKS the UT job would be attractive that is different than UT and Gruden are talking.

Do you know how hard it is for me to try to separate emotion and reality in this context? The emotional part of me wants to go paint myself Orange and run down the street waiving a Gruden flag. Understand that I live in a house where I married a Gator (Florida girls are hot, can you blame me?) and my wife has a dog she named Tebow. My dog and I are the only UT fans on my block and we are ready for some grude news. I just can't handle being let down much more, though I will never give up on our boys.

Gruden will definitely be a profitable hire! The amount of money its going to take to get him IS NOT going to cripple us. Three home games in a row of around 60000 people will!
