I just think the way the local media started "confirming" its dead, not happening, he wasnt even offered blah blah blah...then Grudens agent publicly comes out and says we are in dream land, WTF?! Why all of a sudden? Why that day? These rumors have been hot n heavy for months and when there's new rumors it may be a done deal and a 3pm PC, then everyone goes in to deny deny deny?! It just doesn't make sense other than there were to many leaks and it was supposed to be hush hush and the AD let to much info out and it pissed Gruden off. Now they are on lockdown and I still believe any pay owed to Gruden by Tampa and him not wanting to screw MNF has a lot to do with it as well.

I think the Chattanooga TFP article sent Gruden over the top. Set off a massive campaign to squash the rumors. Now was it to done to move media attention away? Or did the deal really fall through? Time will tell. I refuse to be naive enough to believe that this thing just started last week and Hart was rebuffed on his initial contact with Gruden's agent.

Can someone please explain to me, analytically, what Gruden said to Mike and Mike, when asked about the rumors to Tennessee?

Please then convince me that the whole deal was bullshlt.

For me Jake it is all in what he didn't say as much as what he did. Here is a guy that has kept many connections here. Friends. Land. HIS WIFE. He used to sit down with Charlie Garner in the NFL for gosh sakes and watch replays of UT games. Other Vols in the NFL have said he wanted to talk about nothing else but Tennessee with them. This same guy when asked by Mike and Mike after a stuttering dismissal of Browns rumor says he doesn't have time to discuss it and wanted to move on??? I would think he is smart enough and political enough being a PR guy now for the NFL to say something like "I am greatly flattered that UT would consider me but it isn't right for me and my family at this time". Something along those lines. I don't believe he would outright insult.

Sadly, and I know it won't come off as anything but unflattering, I'm promoting to stop listening to the OGs. The main "thesis", if you will, of my whole thread is that the story is too big, and got too hot, that you seriously can't trust anyone at this point (I guess that includes myself).

Even the people with similar mindsets as my own, regarding Gruden, I see rushing back for any/every word that the OGs will say, which again without smearing them are often vague and need multiple postings to even get a true sense of, when in reality - it's reached the point that what they're suggesting is no longer believable. We can either believe (most) of them and that Gruden was the guy from the start, and things went up to the point that he was nearly signed, but something killed it - (yet still we're being strung along with a tiny amount of hope without any substantial reason as to why other than, again, vague, remarks about battles between nameless AD members, boosters, and Hart)....

Or, you can believe the theory that a few others and myself share that this was the plan all along (and, initially what I believed several of the OGs to believe as well). I don't want to take credit for it, as it's not self-promoting. This is obviously a new-account, and will disappear if this hire doesn't happen. But, I want people who come on these forums to look for "inside" information to do just that - look "inside" if you will - your own rationality, your own thoughts to the media we turn to when we often know they're simply money-puppets for the people that pay them. I feel like some theories I've worked over the last couple of days, mixed with some theories of a few other solid posters have painted a pretty decent narrative of the most likely way this situation has gone, and will go, assuming Gruden is a possibility.

To me, it's much more believable than last-minute squabbles between millionaires over pennies in assistant-staff salaries, control issues in a division that has Nick Saban and Les Miles in pack, or a guy that just figured out 3 days ago that the college game may be too much for him, as he polishes his Super Bowl ring and laughs at the NFL offers he's rejected since 2008.

Again, I may come off as self-serving, but I'm just a Grudenite. I wasn't even an account a week ago. I just want to push my theory, that I believe is sound, onto other folks who still believe in the same thing as me - but who might be clouded up in all the smokescreening and hooplah that has come out, directly for that reason, over the last two days. If they like what I'm claiming, great. If not, throw it back. No harm, no foul.

And actually, thank you Coasty, for even pulling that card on me. I didn't make my initial post to garner any real kind of attention, rather just make a blanket statement of the last 5-6 posts I've made in these Gruden threads, but since you've mentioned it, and the feedback I've gotten, it has gotten to my head a little. I am human, and I will definitely try to tone that back. Like I said, I'm only after the truth in all this - no heroism, no "I told you so's", no "your sources were wrong!", just an opportunity to cut through some of the BS and try to guess to what's really happening.

My post was not a shot... I actually think there may be some truth in what you believe went down... I have actually been here all along from gruden1 because I am a Gruden fan.... that is who I want if we can get him.

It will not change my life if we do not get him, or if we do. I thank you for your post and it was insightful and very well written as I would not be able to do at all.

I know there are many who come in here to attack the OG's and to belittle the believers as well as any who post here... I am not one of those

But I find it interesting that you value your opinion above that of the OG's by saying to STOP listening to them. As for me they are the ones who have built this thread to what it is... I have followed their logic and their inside information thus far.... As for me "I will dance with the girl what brung me....

guys, one person has told me and another has posted on TOS that this Gruden thing isn't dead. TIFWIW

In fact, I believe a whole lot of Friday was the UTAD and Lamonte playing Fire department if you know what I mean. TIFWIW

I have to see it to believe it, but I'm still hopeful.

Sports source this morning is yucking it up on the Gruden stuff. Hyams is sitting there like a toad. Not saying a word.

Nothing adds up... that is for sure and untill there is someone else announced.... I will hold out a little hope

I don't follow other fan sites, but I have to think that we are just damn special in a multitude of ways. We have everything from homers to the most cynical and jaded curmudgeons around. I love em all!

Here is my post from YESTERDAY that got buried, just wanted to re-post it:

"OK..No one can convince me that Hart just started the coaching search and that he has been sitting on his rear doing nothing for the last couple weeks..From what I heard, he was at the men's basketball game last week relaxing and taking it easy..Think about it, if he didn't have his man in the bag, don't you think he would would have been all over the place trying to get a coach locked up and ready to sign?

I think Gruden received his last payment from TB on Nov.29th or 30th..The way I understand if he takes a coaching job before the payments are complete, then he doesn't receive said payment..Can't blame him for waiting on that because he was fired from TB so he deserves every penny that comes his way.

Then there's the MNF factor..He could be waiting to finish out the season on Dec.17th which is in Nashville..Coincidence..I think not..Then again this may not be a factor at all..Just throwing in my :twocents:."

Just think it's too soon(no pun intended) to throw in the towel..I'm in the minority but that's ok I can understand how others feel.

This has gotten embarrassing. We should know when it's time to move on, just use some common sense and all that.

But I'll let you have your fun and quit complaining about how you're contributing to the embarrassment on Tennessee football on a national level.

Carry on, Grudenites!

Coasty it adds up perfectly fine. Gruden is an attention whore and needed his fix. He got it and when it came go time he wouldn't say yes! End of story

The Strong thing is weird cause I am pretty sure Skeeter said his interview went well, etc.

Coaches usually deny that they have interviewed even when they have. Especially if they think they might not get the job. But who knows. I certainly don't.

I still hold out hope..... a small amount .... but hope

A lot of poster's say I won't believe it till they march someone else to the podium. But even if they do there will still be many questions not answered about this. Like some have said it smells fishy.
