Whatever the situation, we can't hire any of these guys being mentioned. We need a proven winner, not another Dooley-esque up-and-comer. We should''ve gone after Bielema.

Here is what I think...

Gruden wants the job but has outrageous demands that Hart doesnt want to commit to.

Hart is running around frantically looking for an cheaper alternative to Gruden that is still a big name.

Hart knows he cant hire another Dooley, so if he cant find a suitable alternative to Gruden, then his hand will be forced and he'll have to eat his own crow and give Gruden what he wants.

UPDATE: The third candidate which is the top of Tennessee's is North Carolina's Larry Fedora.

"Tennessee's search for a head coach continues today in New York City as multiple sources have confirmed to VolQuest.com that North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora is interviewing sometime today with athletics director Dave Hart and other members of UT's travel party in New York," Brent Hubbs and John Brice reported.

"All signs point to Fedora, Strong and Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy as the three finalists for the job in a search that Tennessee would like to have done by Thursday."

VolQuest.com echoed the sentiments made earlier by GoVolsXtra.com that Strong would jump at the opportunity at Tennessee if offered the position.

lulz, I totally forgot to consider that this means they'll need a new coach now. Good luck getting Gruden's family to leave nice warm Tampa for Madison–the land of frozen pee streams...

SIAP but I was wondering...

It probably isn't fair, recruiting wise, to have a coach that is on MNF. At least not if he is able to contact recruits while he is on TV. I don't mean talk to them during the game, but talk to them, then go on TV the next day. Dec 17th start the Dead Period where the coaches can't make contact. Maybe UT is just waiting for the Dead Period to start to announce and JG could still finish out MNF? It sure would be convenient to make a stop in Knoxville for a PC on the way to the game in Nashville.
