Well, we're getting ready to play ball, and the Sox are looking to be in decent shape for the '08 campaign.

The biggest question on the mound is Curt's shoulder, and it will continue to be an issue throughout the season, i'm afraid. But with Beckett, Matsuzaka, Lester, Buchholz, and Wakefield, the Olde Towners would sport a solid rotation without Curt. I figure Daisuke to have a much better year, i think he worked over the winter to be more forthcoming to hitters, rather than try to nip corners to avoid contact. He has good outs by contact stuff, and can ring up the K's as well. There is a good reason Jon Lester was a centerpiece in the Johan Santana talks, and he'll prove it this season.

No major additions, but Sean Casey is a solid ballplayer, an underrated hitter, and will provide a good bat off the bench, or for when Youkilis spells Lowell at 3B. He also provides a veteran presence, as well as injury insurance at the corners.

The bullpen looks solid, and will (i'm thinking) be bolstered when Coco Crisp gets moved. Coco says he doesn't want to be a reserve. An unhappy Coco would be bad for the clubhouse, but also, an experienced OF on the bench would be important, seeing the injury history of Drew, and, only recently, Manny.

My foolproof, guaranteed preseason prediction, is 97-65, AL East Champs

I hope they have a horrible season plagued with disasters and blowout losses to teams that they should beat easily. I hope their self confidence is destroyed entirely. I hope their fans crawl into huge holes they form by banging their arrogant, egocentric, heads against the local "Baaa" that they drink their "Laaaagur" at. Their self entitlement astounds me. I also hope that everyone except the only respectable person on that team, (fellow Texan: Josh Beckett) is forced to take a huge cut in pay, shave their heads, and beards, and whatever else type of facial hair until they look like ball players, not bums. In short, I hope they suck.

Sorry.

Sorry.

Wow, nothing like hating people based on where they live.

The legions of fans that flocked in 2004? if so, please refrain from hating me. I'm old school like Rich Gedman

To each their own.

I do dislike the band wagon people most of all. Atleast you suffered through the previous debacles and stuck with em' long enough to enjoy the triumphs. Good for you my friend, we can talk baseball anytime.

Bartolo Colon will be joining the organization, on a minor league deal with lots of incentives. Assuming he is as fat and out of shape as he was following his Cy Young season, not much is expected, but this could turn into a great signing, even if he can manage 13-10 with an ERA under 4.50.

Schilling is looking about cooked, hard to tell at this point. Should Curt not come back effectively, and Colon not work out, expect David Pauley on the big club in a LR/Spot Starter role.

I can't say i'm suprised by the jealous and/or hateful posts, but am i actually the only Sox fan on here?

Bartolo was throwing in the low 90's his last session, the club is working him along fairly easily to this point, we'll have to wait and see if he gets the snap back on his pitches in time for the season.

True story: My Brother in Law is thinking about getting married to this nut bag he's been dating. My wife says, "Hey lets go see my parents, I heard my brother's future in laws are coming over to make their introduction."

I'm really cool with her side of the family so I was like cool, your dad has cold beer, how bad can it be.

We get there and my inlaws are outside visiting with this couple who are well dressed and look to be normal. Then the guys turns to me to shake hands and BAM! He had a freaking Red Sox hat on. Completely ignored everything the man said after I noticed it.

Colon could be the X-factor here. The word is he'll be used in long relief and spot starts, but I don't see Lester lasting long in the rotation with a former Cy Young in the Pen. Buchholz is going to be a stud, if not this year, next. He has nasty nasty stuff as shown by his no-hitter against the O's last season.

IMO the Sox, even with the question mark surrounding Schilling, should be the favorite to win it all again. Adding Casey was a nice addition and Ellsbury is an undgrade over Crisp in center. I expect Pedroia to continue his improvement, especially as a leadoff hitter, and Papi will likely put up better numbers this year, although don't expect Lowell to do what he did last year.

All in all, Sox fans should be more confident than ever, your team is solid in every aspect. Expect Beckett, THE REAL AL CY YOUNG, to contend again and Daisuke to have a better year and be a legit #2. Expect Wakefield to win double-digits again and be a pain to the opposition, save Aaron Boone, in the playoffs, and expect the bullpen to help Buchholz, Lester, and Colon so that they wont have to put in too many innings. Expect Manny to be Manny, and Papi to be Papi, and Drew to be...better?. As I said before , look for an improvement from Pedroia as a leadoff man, and a star in the making in Ellsbury. And expect the role players to do their thing, because guys like Lowell, Lugo, Yook, and TEk are the real reason you have 2 World Series championships.

Daisuke will lower his ERA by 1 run, and probably throw 25 more innings, as he knows he can't pick corners forever in MLB.

I'm counting Schill out for the year, he'll come back at some point, but you can't be worried with a rotation of
1) Beckett
2) Matsuzaka
3) Lester
4 ) Bucholz
5) Wakefield/Colon

We won the division last year with Julian Tavarez at the back of the rotation, not that i don't like julian, as we needed a headhunter with more ability, an i think Clay will knock a guy or 2 down while being very tough to hit

Lester will be damn good, there is a reason Minnesota insisted he be included in the Santana talks.

I also think Dustin will hit 2, 5, or 6, with Jacoby leading off. He hits some of the hardest line drives i've ever seen. If he can get the ball down a bit, he'll hit 2nd, and move Youk back behind Manny and Papi, otherwise he'll hit after the big boys, with Nancy behind him.

I would like him hitting in the two spot, but Ellsbury is very inexperienced, I don't know if he's ready to be the table setter right away. I don't see Dustin moving from the first two spots with Pap, Manny, and Lowell pretty much entrenched at the 3-5. Lugo is very solid at the 9 spot because he's very savvy at the plate and makes pitchers earn outs.

Jacoby got thrown into the fire and hit well, i think he's a solid leadoff man from opening day on. Youk is a tough one, as he doesn't have the bat to hit 3-5, yet isn't as sparky as Dustin could be in the 2 spot. I love Youk, met him more than once at Punter's Pub (It's the Cask and Flagon without the plasma TV's, for those who make it to Boston) But Youks bat doesn't shoot the stingers Dustin' s does , I think Jacoby can score 120 runs with Pedroia hitting 2nd and Ortiz 3rd

And so it begins: 1-1 in Japan, Manny is on the ball, Beckett looked good in his minor league work, we'll need him later more than sooner.
