The new series on AMC 'Hell on Wheels' is pretty good...love the spaghettis too. Hidalgo is a good one. Don't know if they would be considered westerns or not, but Jeremiah Johnson and Seraphim Falls are two of my favorites.

The best Western ever turns out to be a youtube series. I just recently came across these, and laughed my balls off.

Keep an eye out next fall CBS is looking to have lightning strike twice (see Hawaii Five-O) with a reboot of The Rifleman which the original "Pilot" ran on CBS before a five year run on ABC from 1958-1963.

Based on the 1958 Western series about a 1880s widower with a rapid-fire Winchester rifle living on a ranch with his son. Laeta Kalogridis (Shutter Island, Avatar (Producer)) and Patrick Lussier (Writer/Director of Drive Angry) will write and Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Harry Potter franchise) is set to direct the reboot, which, like the original, centers on Civil War hero, Lucas McCain, an unparalleled sharpshooter with a haunted past, who moves to the uncharted New Mexico territory to raise his son Mark. There, he joins forces with the Sheriff to protect his new town and become its unofficial guardian. CBS TV Studios and Carol Mendelsohn Prods. are producing.

There are also several others under development FOX has a Wyatt Earp docu/drama series written by John Hlavin, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci from (Hawaii Five-0, Fringe, Cowboys & Aliens and the Star Trek reboot) will produce.

NBC has has bought an untitled Western project from Sean Hayes’ Hazy Mills production company. Friday Night Lights alumna Kerry Ehrin is writing the project, which is set in the 1880s and centers on Jacob Morris, a young, eccentric East Coast doctor of mental disorders who moves to a primitive Western town at the foot of the Colorado Rockies.
This may be a comedy more than a drama?

Other western projects include Ron Moore’s Hangtown, set in the early 1900 and David Zabel’s Gunslinger both at ABC.

TNT has Gateway Set in the town of the same name in Colorado in the 1880s, Gateway tells the story of three brothers who step in to save their town when their sheriff father is murdered, pitting them against a corrupt cattle baron determined to make the town his own. McKenna (Band of Brothers, The Pacific) wrote the script. He is executive producing with CSI director/executive producer Cannon, who is also attached to direct the pilot. Also expected to be involved is Deran Serafian (House).

All of these probably want make it to air next fall but its interesting to see how networks are giving the Western a chance next fall. That's why its important that Hell on Wheels is a hit!

The Rifleman, the Wyatt Earp series and the TNT show sound promising.

not sure if it qualifies as a western, but love Deadwood. Also enjoyed 310 to Yuma, and for a classic, Magnificent Seven or Once Upon a Time in the West. And Blazing Saddles. ;)

Watched Seven Ways From Sundown last night on demand. Hadn't seen it for awhile, still one of my favorites! Audie Murphy is in the John Wayne/Randolph Scott level of westerns greatness for me.
