You need to get out of this old UT fan mindset that we will only land 1 elite player in each position group per class and that top guys are afraid of competition. This hasn't stopped UGA, BAMA, tOSU and other schools over the past 10 years.

tOSU just signed three 5* WR's in the same class. UGA has two 5* safeties the past 2 years, 2 more high 4 stars, and they have two top 50 safeties committed in the 24' class and are the favorites for KJ Bolden another 5* safety. Bama seems to sign two or three 5*'s at OL, usually one 5* RB and a 4* RB, typically two 5* LB's and a couple 5* DL's every year.

This is how the big boy schools recruit and stack players. UGA lost 13 guys on defense to the draft last year and trotted out a new set of guys and continued to dominate this year with 9 new starters.

BAMA and tOSU and Clemson to a certain extent have all been stacking multiple high 4* and 5*'s in certain position groups consistently.

Hell just watching the UT boards doubt the Merklinger kid for the past few months because apparently no one would dare sit and play behind Nico for a few years is very telling about how negative and beaten down your typical UT fan is. I get it, but this is a new era. Also, most of the truly top players don't care about depth charts, most care about getting developed for the NFL, the opportunity to win championships, and now NIL. Finally, we have a staff that develops players into elite players, an improving roster that has us starting to contend for the BCS playoffs, and a good NIL collective.

We are leaders for Ricardo Jones, Travaris Banks, Boo Carter (who i think is trending to playing on offense) Edrees Farooq, and are in good shape with Fred Gaskin III as well. KJ Bolden is on campus and he's visited and liked us for awhile, so lets see how this visit goes.

Then at CB, we are in the top group with Aaron Scott, Ify Obidegwu, Chase Tyler.
I agree that we’re in the process of turning a corner, but the reason why Georgia signs multiple 5 star DBs in each class and Ohio State signed three 5 star WRs last year and Bama signs studs everywhere is because they do a phenomenal job at developing their players at those positions into first or 2nd round picks. We currently don’t have the reputation for DBs. Hopefully that changes, but I just don’t see us landing Ify and Scott both. We’re not quite there yet. I would love to be wrong though. However pairing Ify with Beasley after we just signed Gibson and Matthews would give us the talent needed at corner to field a great defense. I also love Ricardo Jones and think we could potentially make a move at Bolden simply because of how crowded they already are at safety

Great post. I too think Bolden would be the game changing S we’ve missed for a couple of decades. Hope we can exploit their depth and recruiting commitments.

Willie Martinez spent the majority of his time during the week on the road in Florida, checking in on recruits across various classes. He also stopped in to check on coveted 2024 cornerback Aaron Scott during the week. He is one that is planning to return to Tennessee over the summer for an official visit. It continues to look to be a tough task to pull him away from Ohio State or Michigan, but he does have a genuine interest in the Vols.
