-VQOn Thursday, Josh Heupel spent time in multiple states. His stops included checking on four-star defensive back Trey McNutt, defensive lineman Brandon Caesar and several others in the state of Ohio. Caesar tells us he plans to visit Knoxville before the dead period ends. McNutt tells us he will return to Knoxville for a spring practice.
-VQOhio Defensive Back Trey McNutt continues to hear from Tennessee routinely, and tells us this week the Vols are recruiting him as hard as anyone in the mix for his services. He also says Tennessee will get an official visit from him. He is weighing the option of coming to town in June vs coming for a game day as he wants to see the atmosphere around Neyland Stadium. He has hit it off with Willie Martinez and Tim Banks both, and obviously, he will be a tough pull from the Midwest, but Tennessee continues to be actively involved in this one.
r.callahanTennessee defensive backs coach Willie Martinez made multiple stops in Ohio on Tuesday. Martinez traveled to Shaker Heights (Ohio) High School to see five-star Class of 2025 defensive back Trey McNutt, who received an offer from the Vols almost a year ago and visited them twice last year.
While Tennessee has been talking with 6-foot, 180-pound McNutt in recent months about a possible official visit to Knoxville in June, a source indicated that the conversation recently has started to shift toward an official visit during the season. He named a top eight earlier this month that included Tennessee, along with Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Florida, Georgia, USC and Texas A&M.
