Mods, I know you will be tempted to move this to the other sports forum but please don't. One, I want to make sure Hat comes across it. Two, I promise you that somewhere in here someone will criticize Fulmer, Alabama, or Florida.

Well, if we are going old school:

Manning couldn't (still can't) win the big game and did not deserve to win the heismann.

Now if we could only get Hat in here to come up with a reason that this isn't a) an enormously funny (yet oddly sad) twist on the situation; and b) this isn't more proof of just how pathetic that program is.

I, too, saw this story. I know it's funny and ironic and all. . . .but let's not forget the impact that this could have on some very impressionable kids. The sad reality is that a program designed to help some children escape a future of crime, violence, and imprisonment ended up subjecting the group to exactly the behavior it preaches against. The kids even got shuttled out of the stadium early due to the hostile environment.

A quote from the USA Today: "In the Orange Bowl stands were 700 kids, attending as guests of a program called Join-a-Team, Not-a-Gang. Saturday night's lesson? Maybe you can join both at the same time!"

Way to set an example, Miami. Still want to celebrate your "victory?"

I think in the next few weeks this will become THE STORY in college football. Dollars to doughnuts ESPN does a big expose on it. And the fact that they had those kids there will become the hook, the news, that gives the story continued life. Probably chase some of them down, talk to their parents about it, etc.

The whole thing is sad, and it is a story, but honestly it's a story and a problem that Shalala and company need to face up to....

Outside of discussing it as a testament to the state of college football in general, it no longer has a bearing on the course of my enjoyment of this season. Simply put, for me it's over.

I've got Alabama on the brain LG. I'm weary of getting bogged down by ESPN's coverage of this, when discussions of 'Thug U Anew' are frankly eating up time that could be spent on a fine football weekend that is upcoming.

Somebody call moveon.com.....

Ok. Sorry about that. Gators are off so I am left dragging things out of the "What-else-can-I-hate-my-rivals-for" bag. You know how it goes.

So, what, you guys got a big game coming up? I miss something?

Can Miami players join the police class? They can get extra credit.

I was there when we won 10-6 in the OC. It is as bad as it seems down there. Canes are a joke to me.

1. It's slightly funny. It is ironic that the promotion happened to occur on Fight Night.
2. If the "U" is pathetic, what does that say about a program that hasn't beaten them in over 20 years and cowers from playing them? If 5 National Titles in 23 years is pathetic, what does that make a program with one in their entire history?

Also, I'm sure you don't have to worry about the Gators getting into an altercation any time soon. They learned their lesson a few years ago when the 'Canes left about half the UF team laying on Bourbon Street a few nights before the Sugar Bowl.

I didn't say it was necessarily a good thing, I was simply stating a historical fact. Another of which is that UF started the Bourbon Street Battle. The "U" simply finished the festivities.
