Ohio State has the "Stanford problem."
Remember a couple of months ago when Stanford cancelled 11 varsity sports programs? Yeah, that was because the $$ are tight in this covid environment, sure. But it's also because Stanford had, at the time, 36 programs. Thirty-six.
The average university has 18 programs. Tennessee has 20. Florida, 20. Georgia, 19. Bama, 21. All across the country, the average is 18.
Here's the kicker: Ohio State has 30. And unlike Stanford (which is down to 25), I don't think Ohio State has yet canceled any programs.
So they, like Stanford, have been forcing their football program to carry a full bus load of other teams, plus the AD's office. And now the burden has become untenable.
Long story short, no, I don't think Tennessee has anything to worry about along these lines. We're in a much more financially stable place.
Go Vols!
