Ohio state vs MI State

Has anyone actually watched Ohio State this season? Have they looked good or dominant, or are they just going through the motions because they’ve played no one through 4-5 weeks? They’re just kind of hanging out as a top 2-3 team.

They are a dominant team.

Michigan State is a joke of a program now... they haven't been good in 5-6 years. The B1G really only has 5 teams worth a darn: Ohio State, Michigan (who has no offense), Penn State (who has no offense), USC, and Oregon.

Sadly they are so stacked its silly. They have 2 NFL running backs their defense is so deep its nuts their WR corps lost like 3 four-stars to the portal and those guys probably wouldn't have gotten playing time this year. They slightly downgraded at QB and it won't matter because the guy they have is decent enough to throw to the gaggle of NFLers they have lined up. I would say the one weakness they have if it could be called one is Oline/TE they are just good there. They literally have draftable players at every position group.

That being said I don't think they go undefeated or win the natty. There are 6 losable games remaining on their schedule, including the next 4. Oregon and Penn State are road games. Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana and Michigan are home games but. Iowa has shown some signs of offense this year. Nebraska young QB is getting better week after week. Indiana just might be for real. Michigan looks to be down but they will get up for the OSU game if they don't get up for any other game. Their loss to Texas is looking less bad as the year goes on. I predicted OSU losing 3 games before the season and still stand on it.

The Mel Tucker focusing on the rise in his pants ruined Michigan States chance of a rise. He was on track with them for sure. I still think firing him was a bad move.

Possibly, but there were some hints that the team was falling a part before the scandal hit as well. It seemed like he had a great team for a single year but not a very sustainable system.

"You guys keep talking about a $20 million roster. If you don’t play the right guys, you’ll be s h i t out of luck."

If they lose three games this year, Day will be the one s h i t out of luck.

Could be true. But they seemed to be on an upward path to me. Michigan State was never dominant so how could they fall apart and if anything it was that scandal causing it.. trust me they knew about it well before the public heard anything.

Not sure what they paid for the roster... don't care.. All I know is that roster is littered with PROVEN All-Murica level talent. I agree if they don't make at least second round of playoffs Day is gone. I know quite a few rabid OSU fans and they have wanted him gone for years. If they lose to Michigan again this year he might not make it past that, they might fire him on the spot especially since I have them pegged for at least 1-2 losses before that.

Unfortunately, I'll be surprised if they lose to anyone besides Oregon.

I doubt it. That 2021 season was looking like a flash in the pan because of Kenneth Walker III. Michigan St probably felt the same way because he was put on leave and eventually fired basically as soon as that story broke. They found a way to get out of that contract and did so as fast as they could.

I still stand on Mel Tucker being a good coach but a questionable representation of good life chioces.

This is gonna be the first time in decades the OSU has played more than 3 teams with pulses. I think Iowa can sneak up on them. Oregon can definitely get them. Michigan has their number. nebraska and Indiana are wild cards and bad matchups. I feel strongly they can find a way to lose 2-3 games out of those 5. Last time OSU played more than 3 ranked teams (2021) they lost 2 and almost lost a third. Hilariously to Oregon and Michigan. the last 2 years their schedule has been a joke. They played the same 3 ranked teams each year all 3 games were close and they consistently had slow first-half starts. They won based on their insane depth.

I think they have insane depth.. maybe even more than the last 2 years. But I just don't trust their QB or their coach. Much like us they are about to hit a 4 game stretch that will show who they really are. They only play 4 ranked teams, but, I think Iowa and Nebraska are underrated and represent bad matchups. At the worst I think this season will be the first time they have had multiple tests outside of the same 3 teams. Penn, ND and Michigan plus 9 scrubs has been their formula the past 2 years.

Iowa is much like Michigan to OSU a bad matchup good defense gets to QB, causes turnovers, plays ball control offense and slows the game down. This season they seem to be having a less than 0 offense. They are averaging 32 points a game which is crazy for Iowa almost doubling last season.. to give context they scored more than 24 points twice last year. Their high scoring games were 41, 26 and 24. They also had a 22 point outburst. Their other 9 games 20 or less and they got shut out 4 times. They have scored 128 points in 4 games. Last season in 13 games 216. Thats less than 17 points a game. Will Howard for his career throws 1 int for each 2 td's and that's factoring in his great start this year. But I eel that's more schedule than him.. he will return to normal this week.

Agree with the premise, just not sure those teams have enough offense to win.
Enough to make them nervous, but not actually win.

If you look at the past couple years OSU has had some problems with way worse teams. They have gotten by on just sheer depth and amount of talent. Just some examples

This year
Akron 17 points first half. ended up with 52
Western Michigan they stomped a mudhole in them.
Marshall was 28-14 at the half they ended up 49-14
Michigan State ok 24-7 at the half ended 38-7

Last season
Indiana 10-3 at the half
ND 3-0 at half
Maryland 10-10 at the half
Penn State 10-6 at half
Wisconsin 10-3 at hal
Rutgers 7-9 at the half
Minnesota was 13-0 at the half which does not seem so bad but Minnesota was the one team worse than Iowa on offense last year.
Michigan 10-14 at half (lost)
not gonna count the bowl game but they got spanked 14-3 and that might not sound like a spanking but it was.

They are a terrible first-half team. Same kind of pattern since Day was there. They are the type of team that's gonna blow you out or lose. In close games they don't do well. They only played 2 games last season that came down to less than 10 points they went 1-1. They played 4 where the difference in score was 11 or less they went 2-2. Their other game? Margin of victory was over 14.

Who beat them? Teams with solid defenses that could grind the clock down with their running games. That describes Iowa, Michigan, Indiana, Penn State and Nebraska. Oregon is the most pass happy and also the best overall team they play offensively. Outside of Michigan these teams all have one other thing in common.. they force turnovers and rarely turn the ball over themselves.

I am looking forward to this season overall more than any other in recent memory because not only are My VOLS looking good the whole landscape of college football is changing. Especially outside the SEC. Adding Texas and Oklahoma does not really change much in the SEC. The power structure of Bigten and ACC have been turned upside down. They now have a middle class in the past decades it was just the 3-4 haves and everyone else was a speedbump. Outside of the bottom 4 (Vandy, UK, Miss State and USCe) every team has spent a good amount of time in the top 10-15 of the polls every few years. Most have finished in the top 10 multiple times. before this year the Bigten and ACC couldn't claim that level of parity.
