I called UT to win big. I predicted 38-13. I called out the UF O line and said that our D front would blow by them. I was wrong. We got the Defensive game from UF that I expected and I'm not going to put as much blame on our O line as some. UF has one of the best D lines in the nation and I fully expected them to shine. Where I thought UT would kick tail is with our D line. They didn't and Chief called a much more passive game than I would have ever dreamed. I still don't know why:shakehead: .

As far as play calling goes. When you throw 19 out of 35 plays in the second half I don't see how you can call that conservative. In this league you have got to be able to run the ball and throw it.

I put more blame on this game to the defensive side of the ball. UF Defense stepped up big and ours didn't. We let them run the ball and hold it for over 35 minutes. You don't beat good teams like that. We needed stops and our D could not hold. Especially when Tebow came in. We kept 4 down linemen time after time with him behind center. The Defense really surprised me both players and the game plan.

I don't think the D-Line had anything to do with the Vols finishing in the red running the ball. Glad to see how much the dismissal of JRS has helped the O-Line. The new guy is doing great.

Your right about them not helping our O line (I mean they are our D LINE). I expected EA to be rushed and sacked and he was. The UF D played as good as I thought they would. That is their strength and they showed it.
But our D line was not able to hold serve. They allowed UF to run and more importantly they allowed it on crucial downs. We blitzed very, very little. I was and am surprised by our passiveness on Defense Saturday night.

Just a guess on my part, but I don't think Coach Chavis has a lot of faith in his secondary. I think that's why you didn't see UT attack more. Cal and Air Force both had plenty of receivers open. Chavis probably saw that on film and felt Leak would exploit that problem if presented with the opportunity.

No crow. Truth is that neither team knew for sure where it was at coming into the game. Both had cause for optimism, both leave it knowing where improvement needs to be made.

For example, UF knows it has got to do a better job on scoring TDs in the red zone or, failing that, hav e more success kicking field goals. I'd also say that, given the strength of the defense, when in doubt about whether a kick is too far out of range for us, we need to suck it up and punt, playing field position.

For UT, the offensive line is clearly a point of concern. Until that is remedied, it is difficult to tell whether the running game is also a problem. I think also the loss of some players to injury causes concern for the defense and you probably need to shore that up and maybe change some coverages to better utilize blitz options.

This game was good for Florida, not just because we won, but because it showed us where we are most in need of work. Ditto for you guys.

You maybe right, I hear Hefney gained some mass to play safety better and now he is just a step slower at corner. But I thought we would hold better at the line and get more penetration. When Tebow came in I could not believe they didn't bring more up to the line. Especially when he went to the shotgun.

I think Meyer was hoping we would do that. My impression was that he was just waiting for an opportunity to have Tebow step back and throw it over our heads.

The kids a frosh you make him make that throw, with the crowd the speed of the game and pressure on him. Also being passive even with Leak in was and is still a ? for me? Gotta make the kid (Tebow) beat you with his arm when you know he wants to run. Yes you take a gamble when you blitz but that is always the case. You blitz and hit him (Leak) and he does rattle. We know that for sure.

No crow. Truth is that neither team knew for sure where it was at coming into the game.

What can be either scary or great is that this game continually shows each team where it is after the game.

Florida is now in the driver's seat in the SEC East and has a very solid OL to work with. Florida's DL ranks up there with the best in the country. Florida's secondary wasn't all that impressive, and its hard to tell if your LB had very much to do. Wynn stepped up big time, and Tebow will be a little weapon from here on out. Your receivers played strong and ran well after catches. Leak was efficient, but 2 INTs (one called) where neither pass was very good could be concerning.

Tennessee cannot cover on special teams worth a damn, nor is the return game very good. Wilhoit and Colquitt are both very good. Ainge looked solid with little time. OL looked bad, and in turn, made it hard to judge the RBs. WRs looked okay, but nothing spectacular. DL started strong I guess, but faded a lot in the 2nd half. LBs did average, but couldn't fight throw blocks on run plays. Secondary was awful, IMO. Morley isn't where I thought he'd be. Here's to improvement.

That's the greatest thing about this rivalry. Neither team has a great pulse on what they have, but this specific game tells more about each team that any other game. Now we know what we're working with.

I'm the one who should be eating crow for picking UT to go 8-5 and doubting Fulmer would be able to turn things around by hiring Cutcliffe.

I've wondered that. Thing is, I'm not sure that Tebow has the experience to check off at the line and make the correct read that you were going to sock it to him. I just think that you prepared for Leak and that your coaches were surprised that Meyer would put Tebow in under such crucial circumstances.

I know I was surprised.

LG, your D was what I thought it would be. Solid!

Your O line made huge improvements and looked good especially when the heat was on in crucial downs.

their run blocking was really good...i think they schemed to get Leak out of hte pocket to releive some pressure...we got to him pretty good in the game...but they ran that roll out three times where he threw back across the feild...that was by design to get him out of the pressure's way....

but make no mistake, he got hit plenty.

Not nearly enough or not nearly as much as I expected. Many teams (including UT) rolls their QB out. That is no excuse for not getting him dirtier than he was. He does not like to get hit. Period and we obliged him way too much.

The one thing that we did Saturday night that we havent done before is stick to our plan. There was no give-up when inexplicably down 10 points. Coming back in that environment, staying put on defense, no one panicking .... these are the things that have been missing for a long time in Gainesville and, while I know very few on here will admit this, that is largely a result of good coaching from UM.

It will come in handy at some point because, for example, we may find ourselves down 20-6 in Auburn and we know we can come back and win if everyone does as instructed. You can't overstate how important that kind of confidence is.

If you find yourself down 14 to Auburn, all the happy little memories from Saturday night won't save you. UT is a decent football team. Auburn and LSU are the class of the league.

Your D didn't do more than I expected. They were as good as I thought. Your O line really stepped up. This game was going to be decided by UF O line and the UT D line. That was what I thought and that is the reality of it. I knew that if we could get you guys off the field quickly we would beat you well. But your O line stepped up on the big downs in a huge way and IMO that is where the game was won.
I know people will say our O line this and that. Yes they could have and should have done better. But in this league Defenses dictate more so than any in the nation.

But more importantly they have a very good D. You better not get down on them. I think LSU has more talent than any in the SEC. They can't seem to not fall over their own feet.

For some reason your comment about happy little memories reminded me of the Chicago song "Saturday In the Park"

Funny days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
Funny days in the park
Every day's the Fourth of July
People reaching, people touching
A real celebration
Waiting for us all
If we want it, really want it
Can you dig it (yes, I can)
And I've been waiting such a long time
For the day

LSU is very talented. But talent doesn't always win. Hopfully Florida catches them when they are on.

But if you get down to either of these teams, you could be in a real uphill struggle.
