In the LSU thread you were a strong advocate for the small lineup with ON starting at the 5. I thought we got off to a terrible start with that lineup tonight shooting nothing but 3’s and giving up 3 straight baskets at the hoop to GA. I think we are so much better defensively with either Aidoo or UP at the 5. I think the offense flows better with a post threat who can cause the defense to collapse allowing better looks from outside.

What say ye VN?

I never said ON should only play, I said multiple times idc who the 5 is, but that I think Nkamhoua will get the start (and he did) and would going forward (I think he starts Saturday too). We went small multiple times after that and the defense played fine, not sure if it was scout, their attacking style surprising us or what, but they scored 17points in 9mins and then 24points in 31minutes, and as I said we went small plenty after just the opening tip.

ON does not need to start. Not playing that well. Uros or Aidoo probably. Would like to see what Tobe could do if he got 20 minutes a game. Ten points tonight in just 12 minutes and we already know how he rebounds.

I thought our lineup with both Aidoo and UP together was what blew the game open.

I think our D is at its best with a 6-11 or taller guy in the post. We play such aggressive / tight perimeter D which makes us open to dribble drives to the basket. Having a tree in the paint makes those drives more challenging it appears.

Of course these are my options from just watching the games and they may change if CRB continues to play ON at the 5 in small ball lineups.

Nkamhoua did block 2 shots, Aidoo & Plav combined for 1…once again I never said either of those guys can’t play, just that you’ll likely see more lineups with only 1 of them on the court, not both.

I’ll take 8/6 any night, and he really did have max effort tonight. Good game for him.
I thought 1 of his 3’s was a quick trigger we could’ve gotten later in the clock, but other than that liked his game…that pick and roll action oop is something only he can pull off, he’s got another level of athleticism to him which again is why I think you see Barnes continue to go to him over and over trying to get the light to come on.

I thought Ga was over matched.
ON is talented, but depends on where his mind is..today he was as good as JA or Awaka and better than UP. He did play well.
Santi played 30, but everyone else played in the 20s.
With JM getting less minutes tonight (9).
I am looking forward to the TX game and very curious to see what lineup he starts.
Georgia allowed TN to go 9 deep.

I like the small line-up to start the game, but we sub so much, it really doesn't matter. I'm thinking maybe the jumbo line-up worked well tonight because Georgia's inside game isn't that strong and our bigs could take advantage of that.

To me Tobe has earned more minutes that ON

In years past I preferred small ball, but this year I tend to like our big lineups. Plavsic, Aidoo and Awaka themselves can give you 10-15 minutes per game. Nkamhoua could spell maybe 5 minutes or so in the post but sometimes he disappears on the boards which worries me. Plus we tend to feed the post more with the big boys in the game and our half court offense tends to run more smoothly in my opinion.

Awesome problem to have a bunch of big men who all deserve minutes! Also nice to be able to go “small,” I hope it pays off for us.

FWIW, I’d prefer to see Tobe on the court more often, but I trust CRB 100% and his reasons.

I know i dont have this elite knowledge of knowing next level talent or i wouldnt be sitting here typing on my iphone keyboard. But i want to discuss Phillips for a moment. The kid has a motor for sure. He has great potential at the next level. But at 6’8 this kid hits the floor way to easy. He struggles to finish near the rim because he gets blocked or bumped off his drive way to easy. Does anyone else here feel like he comes back for another year to get stronger? Is there a possibility he takes the JJJ approach to get better at this level before he jumps to the NBA because of NIL money? Or is he for sure a one an done? I personally think he needs 20 to 30 pounds on his frame somehow.

As of today, he likely will come back because he is a fringe first round pick in a few mock drafts but that is it. But, if he goes on a tear to end the year his stock will rise because of his raw talent and tools. It’s tonight to say. It also only takes one team to fall in love with you and say they’ll draft you.

Prior to the game, one of the coaches was bragging on the small lineup pregame in the Ray Mears room. Georgia had outrebounded us 7-1 and was beating us when we switched out of it. Situationally and depending who we are playing there is a place for it but we played better without the small lineup.
All our bigs played well.

Personally, I'd rather see a "small" lineup with Aidoo instead of ON. When ON does get on the floor, let his performance dicate how many minutes he's worthy of. Know it sounds bad, but I've lost my appetite for ON and his disappearing act. At this point, I'd rather take my chances with Awaka.

I think he'll jump. Just like Keon and Springer he's not ready, but I don't think that's going to matter.
