So let's take a step back and examine the POSITIVES our class:

ON DEFENSE

1. With Darren Myles, Eric Gordon, Mike Edwards, and Nyshier Oliver, our secondary is solid.

2. Our linebacker core has been greatly replinished, with Jerod Askew, Nigel Mitchell-Thornton, Greg King, and Robert Nelson.

3. The Defensive line added some quality bulk with Rae Sykes, Montori Hughes, Marlon Walls, and Arthur Jeffrey.

ON OFFENSE

1. The Vols gained some much needed speed and athleticism in Nu'Keese Richardson, Zach Rogers, and Marsalis Teague.

2. James Green and Jerquari Schofield are two prospects quickly on the rise and will look to be solid contributors.

**Finally, for those star-gazers, we gained seven 4* prospects, and the rest 3*. But of those 3*, 5 out of 9 were rated at 5.7 (on the cusp of 4*). The rest were rated at 5.6. No one was rated lower than that.

Plus, I think we can all agree that some of our prospects were very underrated (i.e. NMT, Rae Sykes, Robert Nelson, and Toney Williams).

Sure, it wasn't our best year ever, but let's keep the hopes high for spring practice and put our faith in the new staff.

Remember: we still have Rod Wilks!

You can stereotype Rogers with his brother, but the kid is fast. That's all I said about him.

the only optimism that can come from today is stealing 2 guys from florida and the 2010 smith guy(assuming he wont decommit and go to florida at some point next year).

Yeah those guys are all good, but did you see who our rivals signed? We got our butts handed to us on the recruiting field for the second year in a row. We need talent to help now.

Although the loss of Stokes and Brown was sobering, consider this. Since Kiffin took over on December 2, Tennessee has received 11 commits. According to Scout.com, nine were four stars and two were three stars. Since January 25, 2009, five of the six were four stars. Thus, while Kiffin and crew did lose out on many of the big names, the recruiting overall was solid.

A better omen for the future is the dramatic rise in the number of kids actually considering UT. Back in the early 1990s, as Kiffin remarked, every kid nationally had Tennessee in their top five amd while Tennessee got only a fraction, it was enough. Lately, the ground has been narrowed and now Florida and USC seem to be on every top 150 player's list. With the number of visitors in the last two weeks, Tennessee seems to be climbing that ladder again.

So all is not lost.

Not lost ,but another year behind the competition, the relevant competiton anyway. We may sign a great class next year. But now more so than ever there is clearly ground to make up if we want to be in that elite mix.
