Jim Mcelwains presser today. Specifically his comments on The QB situation.

"From the quarterback standpoint, you're going to see a bunch of them in there playing. I mean the three guys have done a really good job, Edgar, so go ahead and hold that question. I think there's some things that they all bring to the table that are really good. Now the key to us is putting them in those positions, you know, that play to their strengths. Will all play? I don't know yet. Will a couple of them play? I don't know yet. I know we will have somebody at the position. This is not ... don't read into this 'we're not happy where they're at,' it's the competition has really brought out some good things. It's going to be developing through that. Ultimately the guy that the team moves with the best. The guys that create positive plays on third down and get the ball in the end zone. That's kind of where we're at."

10 days before the opener is it disconcerting not to have one named?

“Uh, no, not at all.”

Why not?

“Because I like the way they’re playing.”

Do you hope to pare it down at some point?

“Yeah, it is. Actually I think the song says one is the loneliest number, right?…”

Well what do you hope to see before you make the decision?

“Like I said, I think they’re all going to play. So, you know, we’ve got a lot more work against each other. We’ll see how some things kind of work out, especially in the option game and some of those type of things. And see kind of where that fits for some of those guys.”

So you're not playing mind games with the QB stuff?

“Definitively. Absolutely, definitively not doing that. There are no mind games. I know what you got to write, write what you got to do. I’ve told you the answer. But definitively that is a true statement. … I love it.”

Well then. After seeing this well organized and thought out update on how the Gators are doing, Jim Harbaugh decides to let the Michigan team take R&R until the game kicks off in Dallas....

It's like his brain outruns his mouth. His thought process seems to me like someone yelling fire in a packed nightclub and everyone gets trampled trying to rush out the same door.

I can't decide if he is a genius or an idiot.

He's probably just tired from working phone lines all day with his agent trying to set up his exit strategy for when Florida completely collapses this season like they haven't in modern times. lol.

This is all starting to look like a trend to me. I remember when he couldn't figure out if Treon Harris or Will Grier should start. Then you watch them play.....a mentally handicapped person could tell Will Grier was the guy. By a mile. But coach Mac couldn't even figure that out.

To be honest....I'm starting to seriously think he might be more incompetent than a lot of people realize. This is his 3rd season. Plus with Doug Nussmeir running the offense....yikes.

If we don't curb stomp them especially after a statement like that things are far worse than we realize

Yep, I'd take a win by one point. Point's as good as a mile. Just march into the Swamp and steal a win, and it's all golden.

Go Vols!

How anyone thinks this guy isn't a total bafoon is beyond me.

He's been in the league two years. He is the reigning back to back SEC East championship coach. Just complete coincidence since he's an xyz?

They also had a top 5 defense that put around 20 guys into the NFL in 3 years. He wasn't exactly blowing anyone out those 2 seasons either. Barely eeking by before getting blown out by Bama two years running, not to mention the 41-7 curb stomping they got from Michigan in the Citrus bowl.

That's all done now. Those 1st and 2nd rounders are alllll gone.

He hasn't been restocking those guys. His recruiting has been pretty bad, especially at a school that basically recruits itself. So this year they will have freshman playing all over the place and almost no depth at safety or linebacker and thin at DT.

Florida was extremely close to having more losses than we did last year. This year they will go 7-5. Possibly even 6-6 I think.

That means Mcelwain will have lost more games every year he's been at Florida. A downhill trend.

Because he's been riding that defense. He didn't recruit those guys. Muschamp did. Florida hasn't had a defense that ranked outside of the top-13 since 2007.

But they also haven't had an offense Ranked higher than 58th since 2009. They have literally just rode their defense for a decade. And for the first time since 2007, they wont have a roster of Meyer/Muschamp defensive blue chip players to reload with.

QB talk starts at 6:00, then he belches at about the 7:30 mark, the strange exchange with the reporter starts at 8:29, again at 11:50

Hahaha.

That's the look of a man who knows his ass is going to be red hot by Halloween. He has 3 QBs that suck and he knows it. Hahaha. He's probably half loaded in this presser.

I can't decide if he is a genius or an idiot.

He certainly hasn't done anything to disprove he's the latter.

We'll find out a lot about McElwain's coaching ability this year and next. Despite supposedly being an offense/QB guru, he has totally failed to find/develop one yet and has won a bunch of games by relying on a defense that he did nothing to help build. The defense has a ton of new faces now, and he's on year 3 of QB development, so the proof should be in the 2017 and 2018 pudding.

He's won back-to-back conference titles, which leads some people to believe that he might truly be a good coach, but he's done it in perhaps the most unimpressive way possible (twice winning a weak division and getting smoked by the West winner in the title game).

"I know we will have somebody at the position."

Thats got to be a relief to the Florida-Faithful.

And its not like they start the season against a quality opponent... so who needs a game-plan, really? At the end of the day, you just need to have the players in that are "in those positions, you know, that play to their strengths."

We'll have to wait and see. Maybe he's just trying to keep Harbaugh guessing.
