Unfortunately he is set up really well to succeed there. He's gutting his OU team, he recruits lots of SoCal kids anyway, and the Pac 12 is there for the taking. Oregon is a good program but USC does not have a traditional foil that can really stand in their way when/if they get going. He'll be winning the Pac 12 and in the CFP within 2-3 years.Really hope Riley falls flat on his face at USC.

He only bolted because he had it made at OU too (i.e., he can run that conference as well), but they decided to go to the SEC and he didn't like that.\All roads lead to the same place. He can run for it won’t be forever. Good luck chump.
The rumored deal of buying both of his Norman houses for $500k over asking price and buying him a $6M home in California makes it a much sweeter deal. Sure he has the taxes and utilities but no mortgage on a home goes a long way.He only bolted because he had it made at OU too (i.e., he can run that conference as well), but they decided to go to the SEC and he didn't like that.\
It ultimately is a fairly lateral move - even all the way down to his raise. CA tax and cost of living will eat most if not all of that up.
In what aspect? Simply because it’s easier to get to the playoff? Getting to the playoff is just the first step. Going home after game 1 is just as bad as not making it at all.
USC is a better job.
I'm not so sure I agree with that. Really depends on what criteria you are grading on.
Fifty years ago with population flows as they were, I would have agreed with you.
Now, both coasts are pretty much as full as they can get. Population flows are more to Texas and inland destinations.
USC is probably an easier job in the sense that in LA, Riley is going to be about number 1569 on the celebrity list. In Norman, he was the only major celebrity. Cuts both ways though, most coaches at that level have huge egos and love the attention.
Add in that those late Saturday night games are still a killer when it comes to actual eyeballs. If it comes down to deciding between say a Michigan and USC for a final playoff spot and both teams are equal on paper? More powers that be are going to have spent more time watching Michigan than USC.
I see both programs as about equal in terms of history and all that fun stuff
I am not comparing history. See post 13 in this thread.
When did I discount the amount of talent in Texas? I think most would agree that there are more legit D1 players in CAL than OK. I realize many big time programs sign players out of Texas.Hmm, yes but I also touched on why USC might have a harder path to the playoff than you think.
You also discount the amount of talent in Texas. Hate to break it to you, but most of the talent OU gets today is from Texas. Maybe not the QB, but I would wager half their roster or so. Oklahoma St ditto. Kansas even though they suck ditto. Nebraska used to pull big time talent from Texas when they were rolling. This doesn't even include the Texas schools or the oddball who ends up at Bama, Clemson, etc.
Riley will do fine at USC. I'm just not so sure that his path to the playoff is going to be as easy as everyone thinks. Strength of schedule still matters in the brutal end. Big reason why the P12 has been standing on the outside more than not. Oklahoma was starting to get into the same boat before Baylor and Ok St had great years this season.
He is going to keep those Texas ties. He will still be able to pull 4 or 5 guys out of there a year if he needed to. Especially if OU takes a step back without him. I would say it's a net gain, not much, but a gain.Hmm, yes but I also touched on why USC might have a harder path to the playoff than you think.

Obviously, but my point went right over your head. You can’t rank a program without their history. OU is just below Bama in terms of the all time elite programs. Just because they don’t have fertile recruiting near them doesn’t diminish their value as a National program. This isn't a thread about the Vols.
