I know we have unfinished business with this season, but I cant help but look at the future of the program. We are losing all five starters, if Richardson decides to leave, and will have to rebuild the OL. I was thinking what will the OL be like next year. If we don't have solid play on the OL and DL we might as well hang it up, so I feel this a very important aspect of the program moving forward.

I'm thinking Kerbyson, Jackson, Weisman, Crowder, and Richardson if he returns. A second year in the system should make the unit better as a whole, hopefully. Are there any of the current frosh or a stud recruit coming in that could displace one of those guys or improve the unit??

What say you?

Should be a lot better. Not putting down this o line just the starters next year will have been in this system for 2 years and were recruited for it

I'm not convinced that Richardson will leave after this year considering the way he's played against some of the better defensive lines we've seen. Either way, we still have a lot of talented players waiting in the wings for the OL. Marcus Jackson has actually started before this year.

Blair, Jackson, Crowder, Weisman and Kerbyson...with Sanders, Raulerson, Kendrick and Thomas as key backups...not such a plight as has been depicted

That's actually a pretty good oline plus the young guns Raulerson and the big dude from atlanta. If a nice JUCO comes along, Butch will grab him too.

I'm more worried about the Dline depth. We have Vereen and then we need some big time help.

LB might not be so bad with Maggitt and Maybin. If AJ comes back then we are set.

Hard to get excited about true freshman being second stringers, but our starters should be pretty solid.

The best news is that most of the starters, other than presumptively Blair, will have at least 1 year in the system and 1-2 offseasons of strength and conditioning.

We will be ok if we don't suffer many injuries.

I expect Tiny will be leaving but we have his replacement in Blair a guy I think is already has the size and ability to start. Those other four guys you list have played a lot this year and about as well as the starters. Forming a second team is key and I think we'll have about 14 OL's on scholarship.

Every starter next year besides Blair will be Dooley recruits, so I don't think you are accurate in this statement.

I'm sorry to say but this yrs Oline never lived up to the hype. I think they thought they was better than they are

The starters next year will have at least one year in the gym actually lifting and getting stronger instead of just checking off boxes

I'll get to that side of the ball in due time.:eek:hmy:

I'm really not good with having true freshmen playing key roles in any position at any time. If a phenom comes along then its a bonus. If we have superior talent, then it becomes easy to "hide" a freshman. Sort of like Alabama can do when a stud freshman gets a starting spot.

We should be better on short yardage plays when we only need 1 yard or 2 yards. That's when the nasty seems to make the most difference.

Minus Blair and the incoming freshman, I would start this line next week against UK. They need to get their feet wet and this team needs to look toward next year. Start Marlin Lane. Start O'Neil at NT. We need to give the guys who will play next year some SEC time. You can say they deserve it. Screw the starters we have had for most of the year; they had their chance. It's time for the rest of the team to have a chance.

I would point out some short yardage plays as the REAL reason for the final score last night. I think Coach Jones also made note of that in his post game interview when he was talking about 'inches'. They got em we didn't.
