Question that someone here in the RF might know the answer to. I remember hearing a while back that we had a recruiting evaluation guy who’d been with the program for a long time. When Butch got let go Saban hired this guy right away. Does that ring a bell with anyone? I’m sure we have someone in that role but wondering if he’s a guy we’d look to bring back with the staff turnover at Bama.

You want to hire a guy Butch had as a recruiting evaluator?

Penix and a ton of nfl guys say yes
Care to name 1 more? And do we give Canales credit or that guy? If you want to give Welton credit, go right ahead. Butch’s years were the epitome of star gazing. And being on staff under the greatest coach of all time at Alabama? Easiest job in America. Like being Peyton’s OC

Sure, John Kelly and Josh Palmer are 2 more. You do realize we had a lot of talent during the Butch Jones years, right?

Lol at the idea of working for Saban being an easy job.

There’s plenty of valid reasons to knock Butch Jones, talent acquisition isn’t one of them

You named 2 guys that are barely contributing, no offense to them. And yes, when nick saban who works for 23 hours a day is the head coach, he was definitely in charge of who Bama recruited. You’d be silly to think some analyst is responsible for handpicking Devonta Smith or Najee Harris. Dudes like that aren’t exactly hard to find lol. Carry on

lol guys who “barely contribute” where exactly….in the NFL? Those guys aren’t easy to pick.

Palmer is definitely not someone that barely contributes. He’s one of the best WR3s in the league lol

Point was i don’t think it mattered who the director of player personnel was considering they’d been dominant for a decade before that guy was hired
You are arguing a losing position. Like it or not, Alabama is a top...oh to hell with it, nevermind. Not even worth arguing.

Why not? Give Heupel Butch’s talent and he likely wins the conference, makes the playoffs. Imagine Heupel with Dobbs, Kamara, Hurd, Malone, Jennings, Croom, etc. McKenzie, Barnett, Tuttle, etc with Garner? That kind of talent would most likely be better used and get closer to their respective ceiling.

Is there something wrong with who Heupel has recruited so far? Butch had plenty of talent sure but it’s not like he needed some special guy to tell him who to recruit. That’s all I’m saying. It’s like they just got on 247 and pointed at stars. That doesn’t take much skill

Saban thought he was worth paying to be at his program.
