the Rebels’ argument.

“After all the chaos (Saturday) there looks to be three bubble teams fighting for the last remaining playoff spot,” the screenshot on X reads. “All three are 9-3 and represent the SEC: Ole Miss Football, Alabama Football, South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina lost to the both of them and their best win is against Clemson. Ole Miss and Alabama best win is against Georgia. Georgia beat Clemson 34-3.. safe to say that SC is out and it’s between Ole Miss & Alabama.”

“Ole Miss has 9 wins outscoring their opponents 390-94 (+296).

Alabama has 9 wins outscoring their opponents 371-119 (+252).

In the three losses Ole Miss was outscored 73-60 (-13).

In the three losses Alabama was outscored 88-55 (-33).

Common opponents:

Both beat Georgia… Rebs won by 18. Bama won by 7.

Both beat South Carolina. Rebs won by 24. Bama won by 2.

Alabama beat LSU by 29. Ole Miss lost to LSU by 3 in overtime.

Ole Miss beat Oklahoma by 12. Alabama lost to Oklahoma by 21.”

The argument posted, though, completely ignores things like “good/great wins,” “number of wins against ranked opponents,” and “bad losses”…which are all thing the committee weighs (especially the first two of the 3).

Wins against ranked teams:

Ole Miss: #7 UGA, #15 South Carolina

Alabama: #7 UGA, #15 South Carolina, #21 Missouri

Losses:

Ole Miss: Kentucky (4-8), LSU (8-4), and Florida (7-5)

Alabama: Vanderbilt (6-6), #8 Tennessee, and Oklahoma (6-6)

The whole argument posted for them to go (which looks like Kiffin had posted from someone else based on the tweet) feels like doing backflips to try to avoid/cover up the loss to a 4-win Kentucky team…which is a really bad loss.

pretty sure that loss to Kentucky was at home too.

all of Bama's losses were on the road.

I get enjoyment from the extreme double standard that always comes out in these those. Bama's loss at Vandy will be sold as a loss to decent to good team at their place, as if any team doesn't have more of their own fans there. Texas's win against Vandy will be counted as a decent to good win. Our win against Vandy will get brushed aside.

Better be careful here. Got a feeling there's gonna be a season coming in the near future when the guys in Orange are one of those bubble teams.

And unlike Bama, the Vols won't get the benefit of the doubt or playoff committee mental gymnastics. The Vols will always have to earn their playoff position.

Don't care, can't make me. Drama is for people who like drama. Blubbering is for people that like blubbering.

If the loss at Arkansas (who finished 6-6) is something the committee can't get over when considering Tennessee, then Ole Miss losing at home to UK ( 4-8 ) is an immediate and irreversible disqualification.
But losing to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma is acceptable. South Carolina is the only one after Texas and Georgia who does not have a terrible loss. This year’s committee doesn’t distinguish bad losses from expected losses.

They group teams by “how many losses”. Then they ordered the groups by “ranked wins” or “sos”.

Just like with officiating, we having different rulings by different committees. The criteria seems to be optional.
