Ole Miss extends Bianco. Mark him off LSU's list. Not liking this at all

He was never a serious candidate IMO. You can’t put a guy out to pasture who has a NC ring and 5 CWS appearances in 15 years and then roll out a guy from your same league division with 1 CWS appearance in 21 years.

He graduated from there and played for Skip. I agree it would be a tough pull, he’s got a good life in Oxford, money isn’t always a driving force.

We know these things…

1. Bianco is staying in Oxford.

2. Nothing else.

Not really seeing why this is a bad development for Tennessee... unless you are of the opinion that an offer from LSU automatically means Vitello is headed to Baton Rouge. I guess I don't see it that way.

A lot of internet chatter that Vitello has become target number 1. I am not liking this at all. Seeing a lot of places say it is down to someone at Omaha. Corbin, Vitello and Johnson. I see no conceivable way Corbin leaves Vandy. So it is basically Johnson and Vitello. Don't like those odds.

All that chatter is just that.. chatter. LSU forums have convinced themselves that Vitello interviewed and accepted an offer today.. or that he previously agreed to a deal and signed today. Thank about the pure absurdity of that. They really believe a coach in the midst of game 1 of a double elimination CWS - interviewed/ agreed to be their coach while currently playing in the College World Series.

There‘s a basic theory and principle i teach in my interpersonal courses. You’ve probably heard it before. In simple terms, it’s that if we want to really understand what someone thinks of us - look to not what they say, but to how they act towards us. 2 weeks ago Vitello was in the stands hi-fiving fans. He may well be pursued by LSU, but he will give TN a chance to make a counter pitch. I’ve seen nothing in his actions that remotely resembles a man looking to leave. Everything you see online is simply LSU fans looking for their Gruden, convincing themselves that everything they see is a sign that “it’s happening.”

Vitello may very well leave. Who knows? But there is no chance that he has already signed. That is something much stronger than merely absurd. The posters to tigerdroppings.com have also convinced themselves that Javonte Smart wasn't really paid any money to go to LSU, and Will Wade's "strong a$$ offer" comment was just bluster, not meant to be taken literally. Even by the standards of SEC sports forums, the conversation on "Tigerdroppings" never rises above the level of an adolescent echo chamber. It is poorly moderated with zero reliable inside information.

There are probably a whole lot of different college baseball coaches in Omaha right now. I think this past weekend was a recruiting dead

There are probably a whole lot of college baseball coaches outside of those playing in the CWS in Omaha right now. I think this past weekend was a recruiting dead period, and Omaha is a place to be seen by people in the profession. The ABCA is having meetings there as well. So, to me, a target in Omaha has the potential to be much larger than 2-3 guys.

Until he signs a new contract everything is in play.

I guess we will see just how serious the new AD is about getting all programs going.

To me it would be simple open the check book and make him one of the highest paid coaches in the conference and then give him a pencil and make any changes to the ball park that he wants or needs to both recruit and provide for his players.

I honestly think that’s what we are planning to do. Offering him 1.5 to 1.7 million and have renovations made to his liking. We are doing whatever we can do keep him at this point. If LSU does come calling then the decision is ultimately up to Tony. I would not blame the current AD if they offered all of that. I blame the previous administrations for ignoring baseball all together and making us be behind the rest of the SEC.

One thing is that Tennessee has shown the baseball world what it can be and that our fans are simply one of the best in the nation.

Tony V wields more power than any coach we have right now. He's one hot commodity.

I think Mainieri and maybe Bertman are giving Woodward some input on the coaching search.

I think O'Connor and Godwin are the leaders based on ties to the program.

Vitello is building something special at Tennessee and he probably would like to be Tennessee's version of Bertman or Polk.

I'd like it a lot less if he wasn't their prime target, kind of like we didn't have to worry about anybody poaching Raleigh, Butch, or Pruitt.

Unless LSU is offering a good bit more than 1.2-1.5 a year...he stays. Just saying.

LSU will offer +/- $2 million for the guy they want, and I don‘t know if “who they want” would take it………
LSU is planning to offer around 2.2 million and it’s the best program in the country.

TV not going anywhere. AD White will make sure he stays.

He’s doing all he can. But it’s truly a David vs Goliath situation. LSU already has everything we’re willing to build for tony and will offer more money than us in the process
