What are your thoughts on this game? Personally, it scares the s*it out of me. The Rebels had a pretty impressive win against the Cocks Saturday. This is a very dangerous game for our guys coming off the Georgia win, and Alabama paying us a little visit the week after. You had better believe Coach Cutt will have his guys ready to play. If our guys stroll into Oxford expecting a win just because they showed up, they will be headed back to Knoxville with a big *L*! There is no doubt we are the overall better team, and we have more speed and depth, IMO, but will we play like it. I'm in no way predicting us to lose, but it is a game that really, really concerns me. Also, what match-ups do you guys think favor us most in this game? In summary, we've seen how our guys handle themselves when the chips are down. Now, let's see how they handle success.

if memory serves an undefeated Vols team went to Mississippi once upon a time and a lil feller by the name of Archie Manning dismantled the Vols

But this year they don't have a player that could carry Archies Jock. UT could lose every game the rest of the season. I mean these teams are (except for ND) are SEC teams. I don't think we will lose another game. The ND, SC and Bama games look to be our toughest games left. I think we will win sat but it could be close as Coach Cutt kinda knows our team and coaches. But our talent should prevail. I like our O-line big time. I think we will have a very good day running the ball on them. That in itself should open up the passing game.

And who knows Tennessee better than it's former OC? This game worries me too.

But heck, they ALL worry me.

Understanding an offense and stopping it are two different things.

Ole Miss' opponents have had success rushing the ball or passing the ball.

Tennessee has the most 'balanced' offense in the SEC. Passing for 51% of its offense and rushing for the remaining 49%. They will come out rushing the ball against the Ole Miss defense.... make the defense come in to stop the run... and then chuck it over their heads for tds.

What I am concerned with is stopping a Cutcliffe led offense. Both UNLV and La Tech do not have great quarterbacks... but were very successful against the Vols' defense.

Here are how the Rebel's opponents have done so far this season against the Rebs defense:

Memphis
Net Yds Rushing: 126
Net Yds Passing: 266
TOT: 392

Alabama
Net Yds Rushing: 221
Net Yds Passing: 169
TOT: 390

Vanderbilt
Net Yds Rushing: 183
Net Yds Passing: 131
TOT: 314

Wyoming
Net Yds Rushing: 158
Net Yds Passing: 239
TOT: 397

Arkansas State
Net Yds Rushing: 151
Net Yds Passing: 230
TOT: 381

South Carolina
Net Yds Rushing: 142
Net Yds Passing: 349
TOT: 491

Here is another interesting stat.... did you know?....
Ole Miss has been outgained in total yardage in all but two games this season. Yes, even Arkansas State outgained the Rebels 381-379. Wyoming had less total yards (397-567) but still defeated Ole Miss 37-32. Ole Miss did outgain Vanderbilt, 365-314, in its 26-23 overtime victory.

I knew they were stuggling, but those numbers are shocking. Hard to believe they gave up almost 500 yds to SC and still won.

They jumped out to a 14-0 lead on SC... one score courtesy of a SC fumble. I don't think SC got a 1st down in the 1st quarter. SC started moving the ball in the 2nd quarter.... had 14 pts at the half. SC dominated the 2nd half, with most of Ole Miss offensive yards coming on the game-winning drive.

Those passing yards for SC came from the backup QB. Dondrial Pinkins was out for the game.

Jethro thinks (sometimes) :
The AU loss will actually benefit us in the long run, Lindsey, run (Oh! sorry that waz last week-most of you will not get that 'un). Seriously, the Vols still have a little of the sting of loss lingerin' in the recesses of their minds from the AU game.
Look for a close 1st quarter and then the Vols will settle in for smash mouth football. In the third quarter look for Ainge to light it up, baby !! Vols by 16 points !! The Vols will not lose again this season- that includes the re-match with AU in the SECCG.

pretty bold predictions...I am just focusing on Ole Miss at this point. Georgia showed us what happens when you get over confident. Hopefully it's just us fans that are over confident and not the team.

Another road game, at least we already have a road win under our belt. We should win this game by 14+ and send the fans home early. :cross:

I like your optimism, Larry - er, Jethro (see, I got it cuz I live in GA and have to hear that @#$% call every other day!). The Vols certainly can win them all from here but I'm with Otis, let's take it one game at a time.

I'm with you guys - I think this is a classic 'letdown' game. I'm not too concerned with Bama - Phil always has the guys ready to play that one - but SC and Ole Miss have me worried. I'm hoping that the coaches have these guys chomping at the bit on Saturday and that they come out and dispose of Ole Miss quickly - if we let them hang around, it could be ugly. That said, I really don't think it will happen like that - I think Phil will want to show D.C. how the big boys do it and have the Vols cranked up for kickoff. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed until this one is over...

I don't see a lot of letdown coming this week. Really, and I've said this before, the loss to Auburn seems to have brought everyone back to reality -- and that is that we have a young, but talented, team that needs to work hard every week to win.

We're better than Ole Miss up front, and we're better than the teams they've played -- look for the possibility of two 100-yard rushers to be wearing Orange and White come Saturday.

Tennessee big, 41-17

That one was played in Jackson Miss, as were most of the nightmare games the Vols have played against Ole Miss through the years. Thank God the game's in Oxford instead.

I hope the coaching staff and players are taking this game more seriously than some of us fans. You think we'd learn a lesson about a team that feels their getting no respect after last week.

That being said, if we go down there and play with heart and intensity, no reason we shouldn't win this game. I'm just worried about the intensity... I hope the guys are still pissed about Auburn.

I think they will be ready but likewise Ol Miss won't have anything to loose and after last weeks win over SC they will be stoked up, we need to come in the first quarter and play smash-mouth football and keep the hammer down for 60 minutes.

I think Ole Miss is putting us down as a loss for them, and will move on. BTW anyone got tix? I'm going down there.
