Wow. So they're taking food out of the mouths of the children to ensure those children get an education? This was a stupid move. The only problem is that many of the people affected will probably still vote for those who cut their food stamps.

I need to find my former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney and let her scream "you're taking tuna fish out of the mouths of the children" like she did against Republicans years ago.

It is dumb politically but it's actually one thing I agree with in the bill. The Stimulus bill raised FS spending; this change brings it back to where it was pre-Stimulus.

It's easy for someone to get food stamps, whether they need them or not. You can't really mooch the provisions of this bill.

I saw a guy buy 3 big boxes full of frozen pops with nothing but food stamps the other day. If they can restrict food stamp(ees?) from purchasing tobacco and alcohol, they can restrict them from that crap.

I like this bill (at least that specific provision), but instead of simply lowering the FS spending, they need to add more limitations to the stamps... I think it would lower the required funding on its own and allow the g-men to allocate it elsewhere while keeping everyone (relatively) happy.
