Just stated by ESPN greatest Snubs in Heisman race, States Ut fans have a long memory, well yew, we still remember Johnny Majors being swamped by Paul Horning, we still remember Peyton losing to Charles Woodson cause he intercepted a pass and ran a punt back on National TV not in the same game.Manning beat Alabama 3 of 4 tries and actually we kicked their arse , Ok we did not beat Florida, but Manning was running for his life most of the time, Really the biggest steal of all time and the reason I never watch this Heisman Crap, I hope it doesn't get back in the sports writers hands to pick who will be selected to the final four in football. The SEC will never have more than one entry. I have seen the sportswriters Crap before, ichigan State and Notredam are joint champs cause they tied, ridiculous
I know we are more concerned with the VOLS but so goes the SEC perspective so will the Vols Kinda

It isn't really fair because the SEC is so much harder then any other conference so when a player like Tebow or Cam and now Johnny football are a finalist, they deserve it way much more because they are playing the best of the best EVERY WEEK! And the other finalists usually play a cupcake schedule...

It's nuts because back in 1997 we didn't have the stats to back up the fact that the SEC was basically a farm system for the NFL while the rest of college football was junior varsity.

Which basically means Peyton put up his numbers against future NFL players and Woodson (admittedly a good player) was essentially a big fish in a small pond. So yeah, he was snubbed.

How many other defensive players have won the Hypesman since Woodson?

Now ask yourself how many equally great or greater defensemen have played the game after Woodson?

"snubbed" is an understatement here

Saw that earlier today, then remembered Frazier running over the entire Florida defense on a long touchdown. Maybe they should hold the Heisman vote til after the bowls.

Woodson was the only "primary" defensive player to win it. Also Hornung was the only Heisman winner on a losing team. Majors snub was much worse than Mannings IMO.

The heisman trophy is a popularity contest with folks like john adams doing all the voting. I don't know a single sports writer that does not view his/her opinion as the sole authority on anything and everyone else is stupid .....maybe some of the VN folks missed their calling :)

I've never watched the Heisman ceremony since ESPN touted Charles Woodson a better player than Peyton Manning ... and somehow that was enough to rob Peyton? I could have even lived with them giving it to Randy Moss that year, but not Woodson.

Manning lost because ABC owns ESPN and they had to find some reason to hype the Rose Bowl that year. It was the last year before the Rose joined the BCS and UT was in the BCS game vs Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. The Rose was a waste of TV time and they needed to drum up something. Therefore, the started pimping Woodson. It was a political farce.

Heisman has turned into a political contest. It sucks and Peyton Manning was royally screw. Haven't cared about this joke since Peyton was screwed.

Manning wasn't the biggest snub. Woodson was a great player as well

If Woodson had played in the SEC, he would've been just another good All-Conference DB/PR. Even Mike Lupica said that they (ESPN) should be ashamed of how they cost Manning the award.
