On Saturday, Tyler Murphy became a lot more valuable. Jeff Driskel went down early in the game with a broken lower leg that will require surgery and is out for the rest of the season.

Now, the Gators are all Murphy’s.

“It hasn’t really hit me yet,” said Murphy, who came into the game with the Gators trailing, only to throw for 134 yards and run for another 84 on 10 attempts with one TD running and another passing as Florida beat Tennessee 31-17 on Saturday.

I'm not sure about the OP's status as far as being the worst poster, but we did make a star out of that kid yesterday. I'm willing to bet Florida fans feel better going forward with him rather than Driskel, or however the hell you spell his name.

Our program, for whatever reason, does seem to have had trouble "coping with" backup players who come in for injured stars. Seems like there's been a long line of them. First one I remember is Siran Stacy coming in for an injured Bobby Humphrey back in 89 when we played Bama. Kid came in and ran for about 200 yds leading them to a win. It was sickening. Just seems like we've never been able to take advantage of other teams' injuries to key players. Their replacements seem to consistently have their "coming out party" vs the Vols

OP makes a good point. What about the KY game 2 years ago when a WR played QB and beat us?

The worst thing that happened was we knocked Driskel out. We had a better shot if he had stayed in the game. He was limited with the knee injury. The better Florida QB finished the game, not started it. We didn't really make the backup look like a star, we made the better QB look like a star. This is why Butch started Peterman. He was hoping for the results that Florida got. He didn't get those results. I'm not saying anything bad about Peterman, but he should probably look into a transfer. I don't see him starting over anybody we have at the position. This was his shot and he blew it. I don't see him ever beating out Worley, Ferg or Dobbs. They need to get the 2 freshman some good reps in practice in case Worley goes down. Maybe Peterman can recover, but I have my doubts. This is the worst performance I can remember by a UT QB and I'm older than dirt. We need a tough hard nosed running back and a refuse to lose QB. Let's hope Hurd is the answer to one of these problems. I feel Ferg is the answer to the other.

He's right. I've watched us year after year turn QBs into All-SEC candidates, esp. Fla. QBs. Last yr. we did it with Driskel (at least during our game)
And we have done it in the past. Remember Tebows first year and jump pass for TD and running us over up the middle? Happens a lot. Good thing we don't have to play Manziel! He would hang a 100 on us.
At least Trey Burton didn't run wild on us again this year.

This is bs. That QB has been in the same system for 3 years. Ours was a redshirt freshman starting, and Worley who are both learning under a new system for the umpteenth time. There has been no consistency in the coaching our guys have had so don't even compare their backup to ours. Not to mention he was playing in front of his home crowd.
