We were 0-7 on third downs…yet won 56-0. Those two just shouldn’t go together but it was Vandy. Did they play without safeties in the second half because none of our running backs saw a safety in the second half. Anyway, that’s just an insane stat.

Several stats will give you pause. Time of possession: Van 43:45 Tenn 16:15

Rushing: Jalen Wright 5 runs 160 yds Avg 32 yds per carry
Dylan Sampson 12 runs 131 yrds Avg 10.9 yds per carry
Jabari Small 11 runs 83 yds Avg 7.2 yds per carry
so basically every time we ran the ball we got a first down

I'm curious how many times we ran the ball when their DBs were in press coverage.

Interested to know what Vandy took away from our USCe game, and what we adjusted from it.

We had 13 possessions and only 7 third downs (only 2 third downs in the second half). With time of possession of 16:15 and 3 scoring drives of 2-plays or less, we didn't need to convert many third downs.

We were 2 of 3 on fourth downs.

Vandy's corners played 10 + yards off the ball and they played two deep safeties. When the ball was snapped they safeties were back peddling to keep a lid on the secondary. Vandy sold out on the pass . Couple with their LBs being awful, we got so crazy rushing yards. SC has two corners that are good enough that they can play man coverage at times giving their safeties alot more freedom to play in with forward run support leverage. Our offense played well enough to be in that game. There was no "adjusting" per se, they scored 38 against a solid defense.

A lot of odd stats last night. Like:

Zero rushing attempts by the QBs. Am I correct in thinking any sack counts as a rushing attempt? I wonder when was the last time we had no rushing attempts from the QB position?
JG error era

Yea the time of possession was insane- we scored a TD for every 2 minutes we had the ball. Plenty of strange stats from that game.

Figure Miltman was told NOT to run. If he goes down for any reason, we could be running the wildcat.

I stated this before but, I expect our QB was told DO NOT RUN THE BALL, PERIOD.. I can't imagine having another QB hurt on a run. Who the hell qualifies as "next man up"??

Yes you and 50 other posters have stated this . As I stated before, a sack also counts as a rush. IT IS AN UNUSUAL STAT.

PERIOD.

I watched the replay on ESPN last nite. I know the conditions weren't the best , and Joe played a manageable game. BUT, I counted about 6 passes way overthrown that could've been TDs. All they needed was a little touch on the ball. I think he still struggles with the "touch " pass.

Rain (and sopping wet field) can affect route cuts, traction and speed during the running of the route and the grip and release on the ball.
I am amazed that he completed 50% of his throws.

You make a valid point but I also think trying to time the throw in the driving rain would be more difficult. Althoug Joe has the bazooka arm he doesn't have to use it every other throw. I think the play calling & coaching will be better for shorter throws but I think we'll still see rocket call throws. We just need to borrow some guys from the track team so they can run down the ball. Does Willie Gault have any young siblings? You younger guys probably don't know who he was but he was a track star that also played football.

Obviously, it’s a head thing.
it’s not mechanics because coaches at both Michigan and Tennessee have worked with him on this.
I would try several offbeat approaches With him.
1. hypnosis. Have Him imagine going through his progressions very calmly and then throwing with touch.
2. he’s 21, so give him a couple of alcoholic calming drinks before practice.
3. yoga
4. deep breathing exercises
5. massage (the therapeutic kind not the happy ending kind).
