Yea, I have never understood the "Insane" thing. To me you have to be out of you right mind to murder anyone. Its all BS.

i'm not real sure. i am just pissed off about this.

I read the story in the paper today. She was found "not guilty by reason of insanity", which I personally think is ridiculous. She should have been found "guilty"by reason of insanity. But I'm not an expert of the law. There may not even be such a verdict of "Found guilty by reason of insanity." Either way, I don't see why she should be sent to Africa or raped by Mexicans.

There are few times I agree with somebody getting off due to an insanity plea. However, there has to be some deeper seeded problem if you kill your kids, in no way try to cover it up, and there was never any possible benefit to doing so.

It would be different if she killed her husband, received a large amount of money via an insurance policy, and months later, police, working an anonymous tip, found the body buried in the backyard...

I think this is one of the few cases where the judicial system got it right. Hopefully, they keep her in an institution for the rest of her life, where she is allowed to yell at demons all day long.

WOW!!!!!!!!!

That just goes to show that I'm apparently not all that good at reading people. I figured that you, of all people, would be incensed by the verdict.

Maybe it's beyond my understanding, but for the life of me I can't comprehend how anyone could drown their own kids and not realize that what they are doing is wrong.

I will be incensed when some pencil pusher lets her out of whatever institution she is headed for.

If she ever gets out, it is a travesty. She is obviously severely mentally ill.

This is not the type of crime where you are likely to get copycats. Also, if she does not have any more children to ice is she really a threat to reoffend? I am sure that if she is the least bit sane the guilt of the offense is worse than any punishment under the law.

Whatever padded room she is in for the rest of her life, the walls should be covered with pictures of those children.

I agree it is beyond any rational humans ability to understand how something like this could happen to innocent children. Wouldn't that act in and of itself be a convincing argument that the person that perpetrated said murders must be insane? I can't conceive of a rational person doing such a thing...

The same could be said for any serial killer.

I'm not sure what the right punishment is but when you methodically chase down each of your FIVE children and drown them one by one then lay them on the bed it's hard to say that is temporary insanity.

If she was long-term insane then I have to question why her husband left her alone with the children.

I read some study that in which the thesis was that serial killers were the most sane people on earth, that is in fact what drives them to kill. Apparently, they are trying to break free of all that internal restrictions. Killing another human being is the most unnatural act, and therefore, once they break that restriction, they usually set themselves up to finally be caught.

It was definitely an interesting study. I will see if I can pull it back out and cite it for you.

Why did they let her off due to insanity. I can't believe it took a whole trial to decide that she is insane. She drowned all of her children of course she is insane; which is even more reason to strap her in an electric chair.

Us and one of the 3rd World African countries are the only ones anywhere who execute minors.

We're the only one in the World that executes the retarded.

A ruling of legal insanity, which is not just harder in the U.S. than anywhere else, but next to impossible, means the convict is even more clueless than a minor and even more damaged than the merely retarded.

(We're also ranked 27th in the world in Education, which isn't strictly on topic, but how else do you explain the fact that we're about the only country in the world that has trouble grasping that the above is a sign we're somewhat juvenile and retarded too?)

Insanity isn't a Legal Defense, an excuse or a reasaon for why somebody did anything. "Insanity" means someone who is either born or at some point becomes something it's Our job to notice and deal with before they hurt others.

I won't even touch how beautifully, "Gang Raped" or "by Mexicans" captures how backward we currently are by our own standards of Justice, and how dedicaed to rejecting anything that sounds rational we are in our pursuit of blind revenge instead of American Legal Values.
