Jochen Wiest, an Auburn resident who police say is "not affiliated with Auburn University," was arrested on Sunday on charges of desecration of a venerable object, a Class A misdemeanor in Alabama, which carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and up to a $6,000 fine.

I'll never understand why people want to do stuff like this. Also, those poor Auburn trees can't catch a break.

They should just put up a giant oak tree statue and let the fans roll it. Honestly they should probably come up with a new tradition instead of rolling these poor live oaks.

I consider myself a diehard Tennessee fan but being this upset over a simple football game is beyond anything I can comprehend.

What a ****bag. Not so much attempting to burn a tree, but the fact that you're doing that in a highly crowded section of town (the very center of it actually) just a few yards from several old buildings. Way to put other people in possible harms way *******. football is just a game. the rolling of toomers corner is just a silly fun tradition. get the **** over it.

Can someone please explain something to me? Auburn fans tend to blanket this area with toilet paper quite often. What a mess. Who cleans this up? How does this get cleaned up? How hard is it to get toilet paper down from the trees? When I drove through there there were no signs of past toilet papering. Someone has to clean that crap up over and over again.

Obviously they just burn it where it lies.

For those questioning TPing the trees, Tennessee fans ONCE AGAIN burned couches. Do we really have the wiggle room to make fun of their tradition?
