One Recruit Every Top 25 College Football Team Must Land This Fall | Bleacher Report

10. Tennessee

Current Commits: 24
National Class Rank: 10
Top Remaining Target: 4-Star OL Trey Smith
Tennessee head coach Butch Jones has rebuilt the Volunteers program into a contender in the rugged SEC since he arrived in Knoxville nearly four years ago.
With 24 commitments already in the fold, the Volunteers have the luxury of narrowing their board to their most wanted targets to close out the class.
One name likely at the top of their board is 4-star offensive lineman Trey Smith.
While Tennessee has put together a solid class, it has struggled with landing its premier in-state targets—as only two of Tennessee’s top 10 overall prospects have committed to the Vols.
Landing Smith would add a premier talent along the offensive line and help fortify recruiting efforts in their backyard.

Trey would be the crown jewel of this class imo. We need this kid bad because he has special written all over him

Go Vols

Butch and the staff simply have to get more than two of the top ten in the state of Tennessee with the 17 talent in the State. He must flip 2-3 players for this class to be really special. It's embarrassing to miss on 8 of the top 10 in state players! No way to sugar coat it.

I can't figure out how Clemson is robbing us so bad. Should be the other way around. They play in a joke conference and still manage to underachieve every single year. Why would top players want to play there? Isn't Clemson literally in the middle of nowhere?

You really can't see why Clemson is so appealing? If it's true what you say and they play in a joke conference then that just makes their path to the National Championship game and the playoffs a cakewalk every year, so why would you not want to go somewhere that can get you an almost guaranteed shot at the playoffs if you beat FSU?

Clemson is a nice campus. A lot prettier than our concrete jungle. While I love and adore Knoxville, I can see why Clemson is appealing.

Also, they just got off a National Championship berth and are poised to repeat that this year. I could keep going, but I would start to look like I actually like Clemson and I hate those SOB's.

TL;DR Clemson sucks but there are reasons why kids want to go there. They are a good program.

I hope we underachieve our way into the NC game this season.

I wonder if we are not still suffering from past non-communication with high school coaching staffs? (under dooles) From where I stand, over the years it seems our UT staffs have not been as active "making friends and talking to" high school staffs to the level as some staffs to the south of middle and west Tenn. From what I am led to believe by better followers of the program than I am, this is changing. Lots of these high school players are influenced, to some degree, by their coach.
