Being a father figure to these guys. I can already tell that it is a mutual relationship of respect. I am dam proud that Arian Foster came out because being a coach at UT, like everywhere, doesn't mean winning on the field only. Yeah, Foster prolly didn't help our current PR status, but are you really gonna penalize a player/coach/program for feeding a hungry player? Or would you rather not feed them and those players do something crazy and then get penalized for having to kick them off. Look at Kiff's convict class in his one year. Then look at the potheads and junkies in the Dooley years. I am so glad to see these guys actually having a father-son relationship off the field and I am glad to hear about it from the Phil days because at the end of the day, being a head coach doesn't just rely on working on Saturdays. I know winning is all that matters, but there are times where players personal life is a responsibility of coaches as well.

I'll hang up and listen.

You can find plenty to criticize Dooley for, but very few of his players ran afoul of the law. This critique is misplaced, IMHO.

What was he going to do rob someone? How many times have you looked in your fridge and not seen food and been like damn I gotta go rob someone?

That being said, others have pointed out he chose to live off campus. Why didn't he live at the dorms? Why didn't he get food from the cafeteria? If it's closed, why didn't he use food vouchers at nearby restaurants? Why are there several VN members who use to work at nearby bars and seen Foster in there many times drinking away if he's so hungry?

There has been many times I had to eat peanut butter sandwhiches for several days because I hardly had any money. I didn't consider "doing something crazy". There are a lot of times I have to buy cheap food for a week just to get by because I'm still paying off my school loans. How many school loans does Foster have to pay off?

Yeah, but how many times have you rushed for 100+ yards and signed 50+ autographs and feeling on top of the world and then go home hungry and broke? On top of that, doing it as a 18 or 19 year old? It is easy to say that now, but you can't really say he was completely wrong because you have never been in that position. Neither have I. Also, as a coach, would you rather break a small rule like giving food to players or have to go down to the university jail and have to bail them out?

A lot of questions are not answered here. How about the food vouchers that seem to be available for them to use? Why didn't he use them? Why is he seen at bars drinking if he's hungry? Sure, if he runs up a $50 bar tab the night before, and don't have money for food the next day, is that UT's fault? There are a lot of questions that seem unanswered here. Not saying the system is perfect, but his story seems fishy.

As a fan, it is easy to say all that. Like I said, you were never in the position, just like I wasn't. My whole point is that Butch, just like Fulmer, is starting to show that he is being a father figure and is not just being a coach on Saturday and then doing nothing on the other 6 days, like Kiffin and Dools.

Kiffin was all about winning. Could care less about anything else. Dooley was just lost it seems. I agree, Butch seems to be a much more respected coach in the locker room from what I can tell at least.

And he is being that father figure. What you would rather see your employee do if you are the AD? Have to break a small rule to keep a player from possibly doing something that gets him kicked off? Plus really, is the NCAA, which is a joke, gonna penalize a program for feeding players because they didn't have the money?

Do you really believe any football player at Tennessee is hungry?

These guys have a training room table everyday they are enrolled at UT. It sad Arian Foster is out there wanting pity like he was hungry. That is a joke.

these guys get a FREE ride. They can work during summer to make money like any other college student.

Half of them shouldn't even be in college in the first place and you want us to fill sorry for them.
